KCK CHIEF REVEALS FATAL SHOOTING OF CAPT. WAS NOT AN AMBUSH AND THEN RAGES AGAINST ANTI-POLICE SPEECH!!!

Police provide just a bit of data in today's presser that might be hard for some locals to accept given the rush to create culture war talking points and assign blame . . .

ABC News: Kansas Officer's Shooting Death Not an Ambush

However . . .

A statement from the KCK Chief of police deserves special attention . . .

Fox4: Kansas City, Kan. police chief says anti-police speech has to stop because it has fatal consequences

Here's the most relevant passage:

"This crime does not fit the national narrative of planned attacks against law enforcement officers but it does fit the narrative when it comes to the fact that words matter. That hate and anti-police speech has got to stop because the consequences are real. Our blue line just got a little thinner yesterday with the loss of Captain Melton. This incident involved a suspect who committed a violent crime in our community and murdered Captain Melton as a result of trying to avoid being apprehended. But make no mistakes, officers of the Kansas City, Kan. Police Department will continue to fight for the safety of our community and we will not apologize for confronting evil and removing it from our community. Our citizens deserve to live in a community that is free of crime," said Chief Zeigler."

Strong words and the Chief was clearly gripped by emotion during the press conference . . .

However . . .

IS THE STATEMENT OF THE CHIEF CORRECT GIVEN THE TRAGIC CIRCUMSTANCES OR IS HE MAKING UNFAIR ASSUMPTIONS ABOUT THE NATURE OF LAW ENFORCEMENT CRITICISM???

In fact, the overwhelming sentiment from most of the community following this tragedy has been sympathy and support for local police that should continue during a candlelight vigil this evening.

You decide . . .

  1. The most important part of the question that you shouldn't look over is "under the circumstances" you have to remember that he just lost one of his guys and that makes two in this year alone. He has a right to address criticism against police.

  2. Tony- You should go back and listen to the comments made by the mayor during this press conference. Why he had to throw in a comment about innocent people killed by the police when this press conference was about an innocent police officer killed by a criminal, I just don't understand. This is not the time and place for that. Let's stand by this family and this department and bury this hero. Then folks like the mayor can go back to their inflammatory rhetoric.

  3. Its too bad you have to explain to stupid white people who want to lump this on the job death as a race-baiting crime that perpetuates hate of other cultures. Of course, hate has no boundaries.

  4. So, we have to stop the hate speech against the police, but animals like 2:48 can hide behind the 'free speech' banner?

Why aren't these racists being called out?

  5. we need more black cops.. they need to feel the hate and take the brunt of their own people's anger and absolute disregard for the law and human life

sign up black men!! come fix your own communities!! there will come a time when white cops will no longer stick their neck out for you ungrateful black bastards.

  7. May not agree with the tone of the comment @1:26 but he is right, if only by accident. There needs to be more diversity among police.

  11. Read it & weep, you racist pigs. CNN put this on top:

"McIver explained that during a phone conversation, Melania Trump read passages from Michelle Obama's speech as examples of the kind of tone she wanted to strike because she admired the first lady."

  12. I agree 100% with the Chief and think he's doing a great job!

  20. The following two statements are not mutually exclusive and CAN be held in the same rational head:

    Black lives matter.

    Blue lives matter.

Pointing out that black citizens are killed by the police -- often in trivial encounters that escalate -- at a rate 2.5 times the killing of white citizens is a call for reform, not violence against police.

The over militarization and over use of force by law enforcement (often driven by fear of our over-armed populace)makes our citizens -- black and white -- less safe. And it makes our POLICE less safe (especially in such an over-armed society.)

No rational person can consider the murder of cops as anything less than evil. But, rational people must also accept that police shooting a 12 year old playing with a toy in a park -- or a motorist with a bad tail light -- is also intolerable. And, rational people can think both of those things at the same time.

  21. 4:02 - Your examples are of the "hands up, don't shoot" variety: lies that go halfway around the world before truth can get its boots on.

  22. Cops are getting their brains blown out in the street and you people are making a joke of the situation.

  23. Cops need to keep shooting crook niggers! And white meth heads and brown drug traffickers. Did I forget anybody?

You can't have it both ways.
