"The term of Deron Cherry, a business owner and former Chiefs player, is up at the end of this week, and legislators must forward three names to Gov. Jay Nixon, who is to appoint one of the three for a term ending July 15, 2021.

On Monday, Legislator Dan Tarwater, D-Kansas City, nominated Cherry, and Legislator Theresa Galvin, R-Lee’s Summit, nominated businessman Bill Brown. Then Legislator Greg Grounds, R-Blue Springs, noted that two legislators – Dennis Waits, D-Independence, and Alfred Jordan, D-Kansas City – were absent and might have people they want to nominate."
