"TKC, had guests in town this week and they weren't able to stay at ######### hotel on Main. It wasn't that bad a few years ago but now it has changed management and it's basically a staging ground for thugs who are doing God knows what in their hotel rooms. Plain and simple: It's dangerous and I'd advise tourists to look elsewhere for accommodations. I encouraged to my friends to make other arrangements and leave a review on the hotel's site in order to warn others but I just wanted to send a note your way to let you know that things are going from bad to worse in Midtown and your readers might want to think twice before having anything to do with this area."
Now, in a historical context . . . The motel/hotel game has always been somewhat of a breeding ground for crime and now we see the urban core problem hitting an embattled area of Midtown threatening not only residents but also many of those alleged 24 million tourists who visit Kansas City every year.

ReplyDeleteHe's talking about the Residence Inn Marriott at 30th and Main. The hotel rents out rooms every weekend to large groups from the inner city so they can have parties, drink, smoke, etc. Several times, weapons have been involved and shots are fired.

I still cannot understand the whole Hyatt subsidy, because Kansas City is currently one of the better Hospitality markets in the country. Pure supply and demand, there is more demand than supply. RevPAR's and ADR's up over 10% YOY. Incredible.

JoCo is a collection of ho-hum suburbs just like exist in every city in America. It's nice enough, but no one wants to fucking visit. There's a reason JoCo hotels are cheaper than hotels in the city, it's called supply and demand.

ReplyDeleteIf your criteria for selecting and recommending a hotel is "that at least there's no criminal actions" there, you seem to have fairly low standards.
And the great majority of visitors to KC arrive in their own vehicles or rent cars, so the notion of "nothing to do" within walking distance of your hotel isn't really relevant.
One of the real benefits of the KC metro is it's easy to get around and lots to do all around.
Try to overcome some of the childish local parochialism.
The next thing we'll be hearing is where you went to high school.
