TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY INSIDERS CONTEND OUTDATED TOY TRAIN STREETCAR TECH RUINED 'SMART CITY' OPPORTUNITY!!!

Timing is everything and right now our blog community wants to share just a bit of insight after heartbreak today for Kansas City transit enthusiasts and this town's FAIL to win so-called "Smart City" cash . . .

We'll share the love in the same way that hottie model Coco Austin continues to win hearts and minds . . .

OUR BLOG COMMUNITY SEYZ LATE MODEL CLOCK TECH COULD BE A REASON WHY KANSAS CITY WAS PASSED OVER FOR FED TECH/TRANSIT CASH!!!

Here's the word:

"$150 million down the drain & the trolley shelters do not provide feature real-time arrival information; just darn expensive clocks. On the other hand, the MAX & Bus Rapid Transit shelters provide real-time MAX arrival information so that customers may wait with greater confidence."

Example . . .

You decide . . .

Comments

  1. Agree and disagree.

Yes, the clock time is embarrassing and it's not as good as MAX bus stops but I will say that streetcar stations are miles ahead of most of the metro stops. That's just a fact.

  2. ^^^ You're missing the point. We're talking about functionality. Bus stops provide relevant information, the streetcar just has a giant watch. That isn't really forward thinking at all.

  3. The difference between streetcar stations and bus stops are the crazy homeless. Police will chance them away from the streetcar but they're free to harass and frighten the people who ride the bus. It's a question of safety, not tech.

    So you're both wrong.

  5. I relent. I used to be a supporter, but after the 400th unbiased post by the highly informed, always objective, Tony-I-have-no-life Bottelo (and criticize those who do), I am now opposed.

Really moving the needle on public policy TKC.

That barista given you the time of day yet? She would have to if you told her about your denizens/insiders, or maybe about your caustic attitude on life? You know, women are attracted to dour, hateful men.

  6. I thought the stupid "public art" would have made up the difference:

Sure, it looks like grade school finger painting but it's the best the creative class could do. I guess the Department of Transpiration wasn't impressed.

  7. Why do we need federal money? We can just pass more taxes without a city vote!

    ReplyDelete
  8. The reason that there is no arrival time is that the streetcar is scheduled to stop at every stop in 15 minute intervals. The bus schedule varies and that's why arrival times make more sense there. My hope is that we'll have more info on these signs that people can use eventually.

  9. I think anyone who follows tech trends knows well that KC is far from being a high tech or smart city. The difference is that in the case of this contest the people being bullshitted were not citizens of KC.

As surely as Sharia Law is the law of the land, Tony Botello is right- do not question. Kansas City will continue to suffer for as long as it celebrates sodomites.

  11. Kansas City has real tech industry here other then social media apps that tell you where cheap beer is and kiosks.

  12. In Kansas City, which is run by people with the attention span of a gnat and no interest at all in maintaining anything, none of this crap will even work in six months.
    How's Mike's new taxpayer-subsidized hotel coming?

  13. I can tell you for sure the streetcar does not run at anything close to a 15 minute interval. I waited at the city center stop to get to crossroads. After 5 mins I figured I'd just walk towards my destination until the streetcar caught up. Over my 20 minute walk, no streetcar. I wasn't mad because I didn't mind the walk.

But these current travel times are unacceptable if we are talking about expansion. It can't take 40 mins to get from UMKC to Downtown. Simply cannot.

  14. I highly doubt the decision came down to whether the kiosks display real-time arrival information. As for the delays, I too have noticed them. I drove north from Union Station this afternoon and didn't see a streetcar going either direction until I got to the north loop. I'm chalking that up to the extra traffic being diverted to Main because of the Grand closure over the south loop and Two Light construction. It's a mess downtown right now and it has nothing to do with the streetcar.

  15. The info on the streetcar is useless, just like the streetcar.

    ReplyDelete
  16. As soon as real time location info is provided someone will write an app that collects the information.

This will make it impossible to claim bogus performance, that's why there can be no actually useful data, just clocks.

  21. Were streetcars in the Columbus proposal? Or did they and the feds not consider them "smart"?

    ReplyDelete
  22. If you take the bus in Kansas City, just download the "Transit" app for your smart phone. It will tell you how far away your bus is by minutes. It's great. You can sit inside air conditioned comfort and then just go outside to catch your bus when you see it's 5 minutes away.

  23. 6:44: No. The adults are in charge in Columbus.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I don't understand why the streetcars aren't running on schedule. Didn't we spend $700,000 on a computer system to control traffic flow streetcars would get green lights? You need to add that cost into the price of a streetcar mile. Then add in all the utility relocation and curb construction and the cost is twice what they're telling us!

  25. Wake up KC. Ohio is a battleground state in the Nov. election. The Dems are trying to get the voters in Ohio to support Hell No Hillary!!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. The irony is that all you brand new "SMART"KC bus supporters are the same ones who fought the MAX, and said all the same shit about it you now say about the streetcar.

While the streetcar advocates are the ones who made the MAX bus lines happen in the first place.

  27. Twice what they are telling us?!?!?! More like 1 million times what they are telling us, amirite? If you add in all the traffic flow costs that are already included and were "added in" from the start, plus you multiply those by 9,000 and you count all the value of the houses that the 300,000 riders live in, plus interest on the bank loans, and include the stock market changes for the value of steel for the rails, plus last night's bar tab, it equals like a BAJILLION dollars! Sue Burke did the math on Twitter so it must be right (even though she can't figure out if her taxes went up or down). SMERTCK

  28. Yep, the Feds think the toy train is so stupid they paid for 1/2 of it! They must read this blog when they really want the low-down on transit. Or maybe the FBI finally passed along the messages the Tiny Kvetching Cunts have been leaving about all the imaginary illegal toy train conspiracies!

    GENIUSKC.
