This weekend all of the Kansas City beer drinking $30K millionaires are celebrating their middle-management journey @ Boulevardia and local media is doing their best to hype the booze fest like it's the cure for cancer.
Whilst hot weather good times aren't a horrible thing, this Summer festival season seems exceptionally vulgar given the growing disparity betwixt rich and poor, a divisive election season and rising crime in Kansas City Proper. Sadly, local harsh realities confronting residents every day are well-hidden at KC Summer festivals dedicated to providing modern day Romanesque vomitoriums for the last vestiges of the fading American middle-class.
Sure, anybody reading blogs on a Saturday night probably isn't a social butterfly but we're hoping that there are other people in KC who can see through so many of these festival of gluttony dedicated only to fostering a false sense of community of booze guzzlers and eaters of chili-fries . . . Here's hoping that Kansas City is about more than mass consumption and some sense of social responsibility kicks in for the public at large or at least a reminder for the big-ass Midwestern extra-large public that this is an election year.
And so, tonight's playlist is dedicated to cowtown beer culture and the hope that Kansas City looks just a bit harder to more thoughtful entertainment than middle-aged locals pretending to do keg stands.

The 30k millionaires line is correct, always guessed these festivals were just a trick to get people spending more that they wanted while drunk.

ReplyDeleteThe event certainly didn't appeal to me, but I'm glad Boulevard is doing events and expanding their production. They are also supposed to be building a bad ass visitors center.
