Kansas City 'Smart' Tech Helps Auto Traffic???

Parking is a mess on the toy train line and anybody who has been stuck behind the streetcar knows that it moves at a snail's pace but still politicos contend that spy tech keeps everything running smoothly despite a recent spate of crashes, stalls and system breakdowns. Take a look: City Council told $700,000 Streetcar Traffic System Is Saving Drivers Time

Outlandish claims such as this do not deserve a comment. Before publishing such crap, you would think that KCUR would drive a vehicle down Main Street to verify the claim. This type of irresponsible reporting marks the end to my contributions to KCUR.

All the chatter I've heard is it riddled with problems.

Yep those shit eating bastards in KC really needed to steal earnings tax from county residents so they could spend money on vital shit like this.

At this rate of amazing, though somewhat dubious, claims and announcements, surely it won't be long before a miracle cure for cancer and possibly every other disease known to man will be found as part of the Smart Cities/streetcar/creative class extravaganza emanating from our very own center of the universe.
Maybe even a hangover curing app!
Who can possibly question the hundreds of millions spent on such cutting edge high-tech faddish stuff?
Frosty!

“…keep the streetcars on schedule by giving them a few more seconds if one is approaching a traffic signal that is about to turn red”. Very good news that $700K allows the 6 million streetcar riders an hour to save a few seconds. Thank you City Hall for being so prudent with taxpayer’s dollars.

Haven't the Main Street and Troost Max buses had this same system, or similar, of traffic light control for years?

I had a nerdgasm!

"In the InSync system, Manning says, all the cameras and sensors are “talking to each other” through a computer network with a lot of number crunching going on. The system knows how many vehicles are passing a certain point, how fast they are moving, and in what direction, he says.

It also helps keep the streetcars on schedule by giving them a few more seconds if one is approaching a traffic signal that is about to turn red, Manning says, which also prevents streetcar operators from having to make sudden stops, jostling passengers."

Wait until they start paying underemployed hipsters to dress like cops and direct traffic Gagnam style!
