KMBC: Mayor vents frustration after boy, 4, killed in shooting
Deets:
“What in the holy hell is going on in this city,” James said.
The shooting was one incident in an unusually violent weekend.
“I don’t think I can be any more frustrated, upset and angry with the whole thing,” James said. “(And) at a loss for more ideas.”
James said he spoke with Police Chief Darryl Forte Monday, trying to find a way to stop the violence in the city. He said more manpower is being added to the Police Department’s homicide and intelligence divisions.
A makeshift memorial for the boy at the scene of the shooting has grown throughout the day. On social media, one women wrote that her nephew lost his life, ‘Due to some young dumb people having a gun battle late last night. He didn’t get a chance to live his life, not even pick a sport to be good at.”
“I’m tired of it. I’m sick to death of it,” James said . . .

ReplyDeleteNow he's been mayor well into a second term and suddenly discovers that while he has been shoveling tax subsidies and abatements out the door, schoomzing swells in DC so he can land a job in the Clinton administration, making endless grandiose announcements about how KCMO downtown has become the center of about everything in the universe, and blaming everyone and everything for crime other than the actual perpetrators, homicides are occurring at the rate of about two every week of the year.
Endless excuses, magical programs from out-of-town professors, one fake nonprofit after another, task forces, and all the rest.
How about some serious focused command attention over a protracted period of time and accompanied by adequate resources and PD personnel to actually pressure the thugs instead of having social service hand-wringers plead with them, get them off the streets, and give the regular hard-working folks on the east side who want nothing more than to work, take care of their families, and have some basic level of safety and security?
It's called municipal government and most of the other 115 cities in the metro do a good job of it because they actually recognize public safety as the most basic of services that taxpayers pay for and residents, businesses, and visitors expect.
Sly, in this kind of situation, YOU should not be the one asking questions. YOUR job is to have answers or at least demonstrate the will to find them. Of course you'd have to take your eyes off the grift for a minute....

The area bounded by the East Patrol Division
KCMO homicide suspects are NOT primarily associated with residents aged 0 to 16, those aged 45 and over, Asians, White females, and Hispanics. Let's leave these groups alone. The top 4 homicide suspect groups by percentage are Unknown (38%); Black Males (37%); White Males (13%); Black Females (8%). Does everyone understand where the problem is? Speak the truth and cite the facts.
In the last Presidential election year (2012), KCMO voted in the following manner:

One can't help but notice that in KCMO, Mayor James, Prosecuting Attorney Baker, U.S. Congressman Cleaver, and KCPD Chief Forte are all Democrats who can't see the obvious demographic links present between KCMO homicides and Black males between the ages of 17 to 24 on KC's East-side. Now, of course, this failure to publicly acknowledge the root of the problem only compounds the tragedy, for the truth must be acknowledged before the problem can be successfully addressed and solved.
If the mayor gave his attention to the actual people of the city in the same way he is hell bent on giving away TIF, trains, planes, "luxury" apartments, etc we may make some ground on this issue.
