TKC EXCLUSIVE AND BREAKING NEWS!!! EMPTY STOREFRONTS PLAGUE DOWNTOWN KANSAS CITY TOY TRAIN STREETCAR LINE!!!

Kansas City mainstream media press release coverage and a constant stream of City Hall manufactured hype has a way of convincing people to ignore what their eyes reveal.

To wit . . . Here's a simple question for tonight:

IF THE DOWNTOWN KANSAS CITY TOY TRAIN HAS BEEN SOOOOOOO SUCCESSFUL AT SPARKING NEW DEVELOPMENT . . . WHY ARE THERE SO MANY VACANT STOREFRONTS ALONG THE STREETCAR LINE?!?!

It's something that's plain to see and a simple question that will be met with canned numbers about all the tax breaks given away to developers but very little real biz growth and/or job creation outside of the consultant class paid to play cheerleader for this doomed effort.

You decide . . .

Comments

  1. I think the obvious answer here is that mayor James requests tkc to hold his breath and wait for new business and jobs on the streetcar line.

  5. Keep a banging that all things miserable because of the TOY TRAIN.

By the way, how's that going for you?

  6. That's odd because, there are 50% more storefront business than when the line was proposed and passed, and unlike JoCo stores in strip malls, they aren't subsidized.

Math is hard, boys. Someday you'll be men, though, and it will be important to shut the fuck up when you don't know what your talking about. Never mind, none of you will ever be men...

  7. 6:42: They don't teach pupils how to write in rural Kansas or some state very much like it because they don't think people there have much to write about.

    6:40 proves the point.

Funny, that for rent sign really stands out in the heart of the line. It's only when you get to 18th and vine that things start to get busy. And aren't we paying 20 million a year for that?

  9. The streetcar is a red herring. It's just another development scam for all the lawyers in KC looking to get more contracts. Not real transit or an economic boost for anybody who doesn't already have a key to the business.

  10. streetcar is Sly's last stand. If this doesn't work he'll never be Claire's replacement.

  15. Just put unemployed millenial "entrepreneurs" in the retail windows. They can act as mimes and play act the breathless excitement of the dense urban environment that downtown KCMO has become.
    A city that never sleeps!
In fact, let them sleep there. Their parents will thank you for getting them out of the house.

  29. If you go downtown you would know there's actually More storefronts than before the train was announced.

1914 Main, the new hotel are two examples that didn't exist before.

So of course there's openings, people now want to lease retail space.

This isn't hard to figure out.
