KANSAS CITY MAYOR SLY JAMES SEYZ: SINGLE-TERMINAL AIRPORT INEVITABLE!!!

MSM reported quotes and snippets of the Mayor talking the new single-terminal airport proposal but it's important to look at his FULL STATEMENT in order to get a real sense of his position on the subject.

To wit . . .

MAYOR SLY SEYZ THERE'S NO OTHER OPTION THAN DOING THINGS HIS WAY!!! CHECK THIS TYPICALLY ARROGANT, COMBATIVE AND PRESUMPTUOUS PRESSER DEMANDING COMPLIANCE FROM VOTERS!!!

The freebie line about taxpayers not covering the costs is laughable and doesn't stand up to basic math. Still, this is the FIRST bit of documented proof that the Mayor isn't accepting any other alternatives but his mandate that's defended by paid consultants across the local Internets.

Checkit:

Mayor Sly James’ Statement on KCI Single Terminal Proposal

The presentation is based on more than two years of thoughtful analysis and good-faith negotiations with the airlines, combined with a year of intense evaluation and consideration by a citizen-led advisory group. Through that process, we’ve learned that KCI is a forty-year-old city facility that does not meet the needs of today’s airlines or travelers.

Efforts to renovate KCI would be more expensive than building a new single terminal and would still fail to meet our needs for today and for the future. A new single terminal would help ensure the airlines are able to provide the kind of service travelers expect today, as well as the convenience they like. We don’t have to choose between these two options; we really can have both. Furthermore, our taxpayers won’t be covering the costs of a new terminal.

However, we are at a critical decision point. If we miss this moment, then the opportunity will be gone for years and KCI will continue to fall behind other cities. A single terminal is inevitable – the question is when. If you think something is inevitable, do it now.”

  4. The airlines are going g to back the bonds. Why do t they just issue the bonds a d leave the city out of it? BECAUSE THEIR CREDIT IS IN TANK! How many time in the last 35 years have the airlines gone broke? When they go broke again, who's stuck??? Taxpayers!!!

  6. What's really comical about all this is that when residents ask about issues like the poor condition of the streets or the out-of-control homicide rate, the answer always is that the mayor of KCMO is just one of 13 elected members of the council, a poor pitiful helpless figure, and that KC is a weak mayor/manager form of government.
But when Sly wants streetcars, tax breaks, TIFs, new airport terminals, or other grandiose projects which enormously benefit his supporters, he becomes a whirling dervish that pulls, pushes, tugs, threatens, cajoles, and exhibits the tremendous influence and power that the mayor's office actually has.
Too bad the priorities are so misplaced.

  11. it always blows my mind to see the comments about the taxpayers...get it straight you fucking retards- bonds that will be sold will pay for the airport, the airlines will pay for the airport..a fee levied to tickets will pay for the airport..same old shit in this city full of stupid fucking people that just assume that the "taxpayers" will have to pay for a project like this..get a clue...

  12. 1) "The presentation is based on more than two years of thoughtful analysis and good-faith negotiations with the airlines, combined with a year of intense evaluation and consideration by a citizen-led advisory group."
This is a LIE. KC insiders decided in advance that they wanted to build a new airport terminal....not for need, not for residents, but to impress outsiders. Southwest Airlines executives publicly stated that they did NOT support a new terminal, would not help fund it, and that KCMO should concentrate on keeping costs low here.

    2) "..we’ve learned that KCI is a forty-year-old city facility that does not meet the needs of today’s airlines or travelers."
This is a partial LIE. Are there improvements that could be made? Sure, as is true for almost any structure more than a year old. The absurdity of this claim can be easily demonstrated by applying the same logic to any other KC city-owned facility....e.g., "we've learned that City Hall is a 79-year-old city facility that does not meet the needs of today's residents or bureaucrats." Odd that the same group of people are not clamoring to tear down City Hall.

    3) "Efforts to renovate KCI would be more expensive than building a new single terminal.."
This is a BLATANT LIE! Anyone with an iota of commonsense recognizes the preposterous suspension of reality that this statement requires one to accept.

    4) "Furthermore, our taxpayers won’t be covering the costs of a new terminal."
Another BLATANT LIE!! Yet, even on a greater magnitude than item 3 above. If KCMO sells the bonds to finance this project, then taxpayers are fully at risk, regardless of any assurances from the airlines and others. It's like co-signing for a loan, if you sign your name to the document you're legally bound to pay it off.

    5) "A single terminal is inevitable – the question is when. If you think something is inevitable, do it now."
The reasoning displayed here is SO FAULTY....one wonders about the Mayor's mental capacity! He begins by stating a LIE.."a single terminal is inevitable." This sophomoric tactic is his attempt to back you into a corner. He then continues the ILLOGIC, with..."if you think something is inevitable, do it now." Now, the beauty of this IDIOCY is that it gives the perpetrator carte blanche to do whatever the hell they want! How about this: Because I "think" that Sylvester James will inevitably be judged INSANE by a court of law, we should go ahead and have him committed to a psychiatric facility now. Perfectly reasonable!

  13. Death is inevitable, should we do it now?

  14. What difference does it make if an airport "falls behind other cities"? Will people not come to KC because our airport is not as nice as say Denver? We are not a connecting hub and won't be with a new airport so what difference does it make? We are going to spend over a billion dollars and raise air fares mostly on our citizens so our airport looks nicer?

This is just another attempt to make KC a little nicer for tourists while the citizens dodge bullets.

  15. Apparently 9:19s mind is rather easily blown.
It wasn't that long ago the the Barnes administration launched the P&L District, which would generate enough in business taxes to pay for the issued bonds.
It has and will continue to cost the taxpayers of the city around $15 million/year through the year 2030.
Regardless of how bonds are marketed, in cases in which public jurisdictions are involved, the rates of return and even their marketability is largely based on the guarantee to the bondholders that, in the last resort, the power of that jurisdiction to tax will cover the bonds' costs and interest.
Most everything that Sly's administration proposes is pitched as being "FREE", when obviously someone somewhere is going to have to pick up the tab.
And issuing bonds is even more unpredictable, because the issue will last for decades and all sorts of both private and public financial events are likely to occur, any of which can dump the financial responsibility back on the payer of last resort, the taxpayers.
Those risks may be acceptable to the public, but to make believe they don't exist is dishonest and unfair.

  18. The Crawford architect renovation plan solves all the criticisms of the current airport for more than 50% less than the cost of building a new airport. Yet the City Council won't even consider that plan?

And whatever happened to plans to build a new airport in Johnson County closer to more businesses?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Well, for starters, there's more employment, more business, a much higher portion of our gross metropolitan product and significantly more job growth in KCMO than in JoCo, so...

Secondly, the Crawford "plan", was neither a plan, nor cheaper, nor does it solve "criticisms", it's just a napkin sketch idea, that is actually the worst of both worlds for everyone but Crawford architects and a certain crooked councilwoman

  21. 11:34 uh, sure, good frosty KC jobs. Remember Sly said half that Etax is paid by those working while NOT LIVING in KC. Five days a week the yuuuuuge morning rush is flowing in from that southwesterly county. Good accredited schools, pleasant neighborhoods, and amenities with ample parking takes those property tax revenues, shopping and entertainment dollars OUTSIDE JaCo.

  22. It will be a cold day in hell before any of the TKC commenters actually stop masturbating to anime long enough to actually do anything productive. Good luck on that mythical recall election amid your N-word spewing.

  23. So let me make sure I understand this. The entire tri-county area should be inconvenienced with Slime Jame's namesake pipedream so that travellers will have all the conveniences they like? How about lets show travellers how much money we saved building a good functional airport without the mental masturbation add ons? Would just one mayor in this century with an eye on saving tax payers money and fiscal responsibility be too damn much to ask for in this shit hole town?

    ReplyDelete
  24. 9:19 If you honestly believe your own bullshit about how money will be spent on the airport and all things associated with it you are a complete fucking nimrod.

    ReplyDelete
  25. We need a new airport - The only issue is that I have 0 faith that it won't go over budget and that there will be little to no accountability on how the money is spent - I mean we keep renewing this dumb etax so I assume we'll vote yes on a new airport regardless of the cost.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I get it. Every Mayor needs to spend a couple billions on large projects so they can make sure that they will be remembered.
Remember KC, they will sell you anything and promise anything in order for you to vote yes.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Get the mayor out of office. That's the only way this kind of nightmare will end.

  28. The Left-behind circus is in town, filling all 3 rings with the same 10 comments repeated and regurgitated and rehashed. How the anti-eats campaign going for you miserable, minority opinion clowns?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Why isn't this money going to the sewer lines that desperately need fixed? J.E. Dunn will get the contract and then the real fun begins. A bunch of "minority" contractors will get their skim money and the "leadership" of KC will get their kickbacks. They're trying to do the same thing at the Jazz District again because that money from 10 years ago has ran out. Time to grift some more.

    ReplyDelete
  30. It's inevitable because the bribes have been paid and the contracts already signed in private.

  32. All S'lie James wants is Sylvester James International Airport. That's his main concern. His legacy. Nevermind if all his endeavors drive the city into bankruptcy. His legacy and having his name in big, bold print in KCMO history is his #1 priority.
