Sunflower State Republicans Target Kansas Supreme Court And Could Move To Impeach

Check the fight against leftovers from Democratic Gov. Kathleen Sebelius . . . "Four of Kansas' seven Supreme Court justices were appointed by Democratic Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, who served from 2003 to 2009, and two by her predecessor, Bill Graves, a moderate Republican. Only one was appointed by Brownback.

Replacing the justices through elections is difficult in Kansas because they don't run in contested races. Instead, they face a "retention election" every six years, remaining in office unless more than 50 percent of voters vote against them. No justice has ever been voted out." 1. If Kansans don't vote out every Legislator than we're even dumber than I thought. You know, the same legislators that voted in the largest tax increase in state history.

  2. Judges clearly are not the problem. I hope Kansans will begin voting for more moderate legislators this November.

  3. Keep on dreaming.
Kansans vote abortion, fags and immigrants. When they hear these dog whistles they will vote the same assholes back in.

  4. We saw last weekend how Kansans vote: conservative or Socialist. Conservatives have the numbers and thus run the government, while Socialists have the media. Which explains all of Yael's whining about Brownback.

On this issue the Republicans are definitely wrong.

  6. Yeah right. Let's make it so we can get rid of justices who get uppity.

If the justices are usurping the powers of the legislature and the governor, they are acting illegally and unconstitutionally.

So why have the legislative wingnuts and Brownback not asked the U.S. Supreme Court to stop this alleged usurpation? Hey, Scalia only died a couple weeks ago. The Kansas droolers probably would have been treated with great sympathy while Scalia was still alive. But they never even tried. Proof that this whole thing is just more ignoramus, far-right Kansas business as usual.

  7. The libtard judges is a problem, but the answer is not impeachment. They do what they are paid to do. What needs to happen in every state is a process of recommending and vetting justice candidates that is non partisan. That means the bar association must stay the fuck out of the process along with the party cronies. God luck with that.
