Let's start this Kansas City morning with an anti-E-tax video sent our way from denizens of our blog community . . .
In fairness, it's important to note that Mayor Sly was late on PROPERTY TAXES and NOT his earnings tax payments. We know this because our blog community broke this story last year and then mainstream media did their best to excuse the Mayor of this transgression and never mention it again . . . Apparently, Internets readers remember the controversy.
The dancing Mayor atop a pile of money is a nice image.
All things considered, this is a nice look at community sentiment about the e-tax that might face a tougher sell this time around.

Yet, they do, 7:36. Stripping industry is a multi-billion dollar industry. We have paid the Mayor for his stripping services...eeewwww! Vote No on etax.

ReplyDeleteNever mind that Sly was current on his personal property taxes (car) when he filed for office and current on his personal property taxes when both the primary and general elections were held.
And never mind that your boy Clay's lawsuit about this got laughed out of court.
Sly is a crook lawyer who got rich suing KCMO. Understanding KC politics is why the population is stagnant and most moved to the suburbs.

ReplyDeleteNo, 9:46, you anonymous coward. Sly James was not current when he FILED. He falsified his declaration, and the Election Board refused to check and refused to report that.
ReplyDeleteAnd Tony was correct, Sly James was delinquent on his personal property taxes, his cars. Not the E-tax.
His big victories of 80 percent were against a homeless man, which the media refused to report, Vincent Lee. Who did not own any personal property and who did not owe any E-tax because he had no income. And in the primary, also a crazy man from Virginia who came in third, Clay Chastain, who rented a room from his sister in KCMO. And he didn't pay personal property tax in KCMO because...his car is licensed in Virginia, proving that is his official residence. He never should have been on the ballot at all.
So Sly James had no credible opposition, and still only got 80%.

No one "likes" the e-tax--or any tax for that matter. So far the critics have no real suggesting on what to do about the huge shortfall if it's ended. The video, of example, borders on being just silly; there's no real substance.

ReplyDeleteIt is hard to believe that the City Council does not embrace the elimination of this tax. It is just a matter of time before the E-Tax is gone and the Council needs to work to accomplish the following:
ReplyDelete1. Outsource expensive departments which are not providing value for the invested dollars they require.
2. Eliminate expenses which will not provide a reasonable ROI.
3. Implement replacement sources of revenues. Sales taxes and property taxes can be increased.
Well, we all can TWEET, TEXT whatever, but until Kansas Citians actually get up off their Asses and actually form a Group to "oust" this mayor from office, thru a "RECALL" and Lawsuits , nothing good is going to happen within this city !

ReplyDeleteThe need to pay for vital services is not dependent on your opinions about a relatively small amount that is being spent in ways you do not like. If you want to have sufficient police and fire protection, you cannot get into a snit over streetcars, etc.
KC government is NOT perfect. Sly is NOT perfect. No government is, and no official is. But, it is irresponsible to try to cripple government because you do not view it as perfect. Self-government is for grown-ups who understand that.
We're not asking for perfect. We're asking for the KC government to be competent. They're not. Don't reward them for their incompetence.
