TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! REVENGE OF JOHN McGURK: MAYOR SLY FORMER CHIEF OF STAFF AND CURRENT POLSINELLI LAWYER LEADS KANSAS CITY E-TAX RENEWAL CAMPAIGN COMMITTEE!!!

A new leadership appointment signals the fight to keep the oppressive Kansas City E-tax kicking into high gear and the campaign team is coming together with one of Mayor Sly's favorite henchman taking the lead.

To wit . . .

CELEBRATE JOHN McGURK AND HIS KANSAS CITY E-TAX PAYBACK!!!

Remember that Mr. McGurk was formerly Mayor Sly's Chief Of Staff who most community leaders had a hard time relating to . . . Turns out he's actually a nice guy when he wants to be even if TKC has a natural and well-deserved distrust of tall white dudes giving orders.

Anyhoo . . .

John McGurk is now a lawyer for the Polsinelli law firm, the KCMO TIF rep of record . . . So this bit of Kansas City cronyism confirms local voter suspicion that there are really only a few interests running Democracy in Kansas City right now.

Additionally . . .

Mayor Sly's former campaign dude moved on to greener pastures in the non-profit world.

Larry Jacob is now the Vice President of Public Affairs and Communications at the Kauffman Foundation . . . Formerly a leader of the Dover group . . . Mr. Jacob worked a great many successful campaigns for the Sly James Administration.

What we're hearing . . .

- Already the E-Tax campaign is having trouble raising cash and the Greater KC Chamber is playing the role of cheapskate for the moment.

- Mr. McGurk will have his hands full managing just about every political consultant in town working this campaign in order to circumvent any significant potential opposition.

- With Jeff Roe now in Texas helping Ted Cruz, the fight against this effort won't likely see much expert leadership.

- The reality is that the Kansas City E-Tax passed by a significant margin this time but that was before a string of VOTER SMACKDOWNS AND A LATE TAX PAY EMBARRASSMENT HIT THE ADMINISTRATION OF MAYOR SLY JAMES.

And so, Kansas City E-Tax renewal is likely but certainly not a slam dunk as the Mayor hopes that his old friends will help push the campaign toward victory despite the slipping popularity of this administration.

careful TKC, the real effort here is to extend the length of the tax to 10 or 15 years.

  2. The City has demonstrated their lack of prudence with taxpayer dollars (P&L, One Light, Hotel, Star building, TIFs everywhere), it's time the populace take action to demand fiscal responsibility be restored:

    1. Make sure your Missouri legislators know your position on extending the renewal period on the e-tax, as KCMO has lobbyists in Jeff City right now trying to convince them otherwise. The current five-year terms were approved by a majority of state voters, and KC's (and STL's) attempts to lengthen the terms are an attempt to yet again circumvent any accountability to the voters. Their arguments that the five-year window increases bond costs are non-starters meant to simply hide the fact that THEIR fiscal decisions have had more to do with the increase.

    2. Vote "No" on the e-tax, and work to convince others to vote "No" as well. The City has demonstrated that can't be trusted with money, and until the flow is restricted nothing will change. Don't buy the PR that is sure to accompany their campaign:

    - Crime will increase: It's already increasing, and throwing more resources into a failed strategy will not increase it's success, a few more people will just get fat on the City's teat

    - Response times will lag: Response times are already lagging, and have been since the takeover of MAST by the fire department. Demand FD accountability, after all, it's their department that's allowed to blow their budget every year with no real consequence yet no better service.

    - City services will suffer: Take a look at our infrastructure, and the lack of progress the City has made towards EPA-mandated sewer upgrades. They City has chosen to prioritize taxpayer-funded development over basic services, and will continue to do so as long as they have plenty of money to do so.

  3. If the "oppressive" earnings tax is just too much for you to bear, one thing to consider is leaving town.

This screed is all the more remarkable coming from someone whose mommy pays the Personal Property Taxes on his Toyota.

Get over yourself. Also quit referring to niggers as people.

  4. Vote no on e-tax. Sly won’t listen to the citizens about the corporate giveaways. No e-tax revenue and the trolley expansion will be stopped in its tracks.

  5. I vote no on the e-tax eveytime it comes up for renewal. The toy train, TIFS, Power and Light to name a few are irresponsible wates of tax payer money. Until I see KC government becoming more responsible fiscally, which I don't ever see happenig, I will vote against its renewal.

  6. No more E Tax to Helzberg!

  7. Here we go again. A shitload of people commenting against the tax and this will be the same bunch that sits on their fat asses white the ghetto rats vote for it. Absolutely no genius and little effort required to put this tax out of business and just watch the ass clowns as it flys right by them.

  8. Nice straw man 8:53, I hope you were able to get a cup of City-provided coffee before you sat down at your City-provided desk and started punching away on the keyboard. By the way, what job description does the City use to hide your real purpose?

The issue with the e-tax is not that it's too burdensome, it's that the City has continued to demonstrate their lack of responsibility with it's proceeds. It's kinda like when your parents threatened to quit paying your rent. They weren't doing it because they couldn't afford it, they were doing it because you're spending all your money on pot, craft beer, and socks.

  11. We are told that the streetcar has brought in over $1+ billion in new projects. The real estate taxes on these project should easily make up for the lost of e-tax revenue.

  12. 9:23, with a little bit of effort, hopefully the whine will translate into a majority of "No" votes. Good luck on the renewal, especially if the City holds their ground on the Helzburg TIF and that issue appears on the bollot in April alongside the e-tax renewal.

  13. Basically the problem is all these welfare niggers pretending to work at city hall but end up licking each others fingers all day.

Niggers will never be able to successfully govern ANY SIZE ENTITY, from city to county to state to nation. We've seen the results too many times. Sly needs to go, and be replaced by a person who won't arrest and persecute cops for doing their jobs, and who won't "give space to destroy" for the criminal ghetto-scum. (But those are, in the final analysis, his peeps.)

The solution is simple. And completely beyond the grasp of any black in a position of power. And of any liberal in general, by extension.

  15. 8:53 & 9:23: Is trolley boy also the n-word guy? Inquiring minds want to know.

It would make sense. Trolley boy's been ranting about TKC. What better way to make is seem like TKC attracts a bunch of racist trolls than to post a bunch of racist troll comments.

    Think about it.

  16. BRILLIANT !! Sly puts a guy from Polsinelli in charge of E Tax renewal, a tax that Polsinelli gets to keep for themselves while the rest of us pay. Pay for services we never get!

    Polsinelli the TIF Pimps!

    Brilliant, SLY!!

Send a message! JUST VOTE NO!!!

  24. I'm voting NO and I will contribute to the NO E TAX committee. I'll bet every Posser nelly employee doesn't pay E TAX on ALL of their earnings.

  25. Vote No on the E Tax because the City doesn't need it. They're giving 50% of the BNIM E Tax withholdings for the next 23 years to Shirley Helzberg. I kid you not!

  27. Kansas City is doomed by years and years of neglect and irresponsible financial decisions.

The only question right now is:

Which entity will go bankrupt first, the Kansas state government or KCMO?

What a contest! Race to the bottom!
