Kansas City's radio landscape is almost completely racially segregated and largely comprised of corporate content manufactured and programmed to hit key advertising demographics.

One Kansas City Radio brings together the African American, Latino, and other underrepresented ethnic and cultural voices in Kansas City with music, culture, and information. We will provide information and a forum to deliver community services, job opportunities, health education and other messages that will serve our community and listeners.
Through our programming and broadcast we will give a new and positive voice to the young adults in ethnic and cultural groups. Our station will also be an intentional outlet for local musicians and community members from all walks of life, not currently represented in radio in the Kansas City market.

ReplyDeleteNot bad but I wonder if they cross over into KCUR's content. They could probably do well on the music side of things since a lot of of the multicultural programming on that station is really just rehashed NPR stuff, international in scope and not really locally concerned.

According to the U.S. Census (2014)
White alone, percent, 59.2%
Black or African American alone, percent, 29.9%
Hispanic or Latino, percent, 10.0%
An ethnic group which comprises less than 50% (majority) of KCMO's population does NOT equate to under-representation.
A minority group by definition is not an underrepresented group, they're simply less than a majority. One Kansas City Radio is abusing the English language.
