TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY ROYALS WORLD SERIES RALLY ESTIMATE OF 800K IS AN OUTRIGHT FABRICATION AND PART OF DESPICABLE DOWNTOWN PROPAGANDA EFFORT!!!

Politicians and supporters of Downtown Kansas City taxpayer subsidized development are propagating a dangerous lie with the help of sports fanboy media who don't understand the implications of the falsehood they're helping to spread.

First, let's put these misstatements in perspective:

KCTV5: Victorious Royals draw 800,000 excited fans to World Series celebration

Snark From Deadspin Is Showing: Nearly Twice As Many People As Live In Kansas City Attended The Royals' Parade

Mayor Sly James: Est. 800k people showed up

Like it or not, our TKC Blog Community has a comparative numerical analysis based on data rather than emotional hype at the behest of wretches chasing City Hall cash or campaign donations.

To wit . . .

ALMOST ONE HUNDRED YEARS AGO A SIMILAR SIZED CROWD DOCUMENTED AT 100K OCCUPIED THE SAME SPACE AS ROYALS FANS IN FRONT OF UNION STATION FALSELY CLAIMING THEIR NUMBERS CAME CLOSE TO ONE MILLION!!!

In 1921, more than 100,000 people gathered to see the supreme Allied commanders dedicate the site of the Liberty Memorial. This was the first time in history these five leaders were together in one place.

Same space, about the same swath of people . . . But back then 100K was a number that still impressed people . . .

Here's another panorama view that's actually nicer than all the fanboy mobile phone pix clogging up Facebook and making the social network pretty much useless right now . . .

Now . . .

Of course yesterday's celebration was bigger . . . But was is 800% bigger in an area that's actually more compact because of increased development in the past 100 years??? The claims of people lining the street 15 deep are also only evident at one or two intersections . . . Most of downtown was accessible by foot traffic and only a few people lined up to see the parade.

But that's not the point . . . More reasonable estimates of 250K or even 300K fans celebrating the Royals in Downtown Kansas City remain an impressive and historic achievement.

However . . .

WHAT IS DANGEROUS IS WHEN THE MAYOR, PUBLIC OFFICIALS AND MEDIA CONSPIRE TO INVENT A NUMBER THAT'S MORE THAN 300% EXAGGERATED IN ORDER TO PUSH THEIR TAXPAYER SUBSIDIZED DEVELOPMENT AGENDA!!!

We talked about this propensity for statistical cheating recently when Visit KC claimed 24 million tourists visit this town every year which breaks down into an unlikely 65k a day.

And so, take a look at these pix from 1921 and then the yesterday's photos from the EXACT same location and while the crowd is somewhat bigger . . . Turning 100k into 800k is more of a political trick rather than sign of progress.

What's worse is elected officials and media playing games with numbers and engaging a shameful measuring contest shows us that their words are every bit as meaningless, suspect and undependable as most partian screeds online.

Among our politicos and "mainstream" media there's not even an inclination to check with Kansas City documents about the capacity of this location and local streets in order to see that their phony numbers are easily disproved with a quick bit of historical analysis. Like it or not, this talk of numbers is important if only because so much skewed data is now being used to justify a dirty deal wherein the local elite don't even want the public to vote before handing over millions of dollars.

Developing . . .

  1. Hey TKC, they don't call this stuff lies anymore, they call it spin.

That is the new way where even the worst of us sounds skilled.

    Get on board!

  2. Speaking of, the streetcar would've made this so much better.

  3. Our mayor doesn't need to prove anything, just take his word for it. The bow tie will not be accepting questions.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Do a simple grid, if the firs crowd is 800 thousand and the 1921 crowd is estimated at 100 thousand than just superimpose those images across grids and if they don't match up that is the easiest way to prove Sly James wrong.

  5. It's these types of posts that really make this blog look stupid. The fabricated rage, the pseudo outrage, its painful. Overacted, over scripted.

    ReplyDelete
  6. 6:47: I'm not sure posts like this make the blog look stupid. A reality check should make the folks promoting the false numbers look, if not stupid, at least disingenuous.

The problem is with lies like WMDs leading us to a never-ending war in the Middle East and a host of other fables (including that there's no inflation when what we see in our lives tells us that's a lie), government at all levels is becoming so untrustworthy as to be irrelevant to most people.

When we don't know what to believe we tend to believe nothing.

I liked the part where Jonny Gomes told us he was the "un-politically correct person."

His distancing himself from the entire political charade was a refreshing admission.

  8. I'm certain this post makes this blog look very stupid since no grownup in their right mind thinks people are inflating crowd estimates to "push their taxpayer subsidized development agenda."

It feels ludicrous to even type out.

Mexcrement said yesterday he had better crowd estimates but of course they were based on mexcrement.

It was a bigger crowd than I've ever seen. Besides I got twelve chances yesterday to kick Mexcrement in the nuts.

    Hard.

    Repeatedly.

  9. I don't know how many people were there. But there was about 40k between city hall and the federal court house on the parade route. I'd be happy to send you aerial pictures tony.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Parade route 2.3 miles, 12,144 feet. If each person got 2 feet of space and 20 deep both sides of the street then 12,144/2 X 40 = 242,880. Seems like that would be the upward limit on the parade route. Look the KCPD and KCFD need the high numbers to justify a lot of overtime. They do the same thing at the Plaza lighting ceremony. Been going on for years, no reason to assume it stops now. Face it, our city leaders and bureaucrats can never be trusted to tell the truth.

    ReplyDelete
  11. These are the same people who claim that 24 million tourists visit Kansas City every year. That's about as many as Paris gets, half as many as New York City, three times as many as the entire state of Hawaii.

These elected goons and corporate shills are congenital liars. They all become very wealthy "serving" the people.

    ReplyDelete
  12. The picture does not take into account the upper end of the parade route. From the Sprint Center up to Ninth Street, then back down Oak Street. When that part of the parade was over, those people were rejected from the already stuffed Union Station area. That would have easily tripled the count at Union Station.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I would say greater number of people lined the parade route than attended the rally with little crossover. The rally crowd was already in place and the parade crowd left.

  16. I was down there and I can confirm that there was only like 30 or 40 people there. All of them got shot or run over by the toy train. This town blows, man. I got get outta he-yer! Everything sucks and is the worst, bro!

  17. Maybe Sprint who announced layoffs today can issue blue slips instead of pink to their local employees.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Well I suppose the next stage is the Royals threatening to leave KC if their taxes are not slashed and subsidies are not increased. That's the way things work here in Sylvester's Wonderland.

    ReplyDelete
  19. ABC News had the crowd at "upwards of 200,000". I can accept that. I never take the work of local media or bloggers 'cause they are all pretty much full of shit.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Mayor Sly James: Est. 800k people showed up

Sylvester must have called up a developer consultant to calculate the numbers.

    ReplyDelete
  21. OOPS!!! TKC DID IT AGAIN!!!!

He picked up that Truth Stick and clobbered Mayor James and the Downtown cheerleaders over the head repeatedly.

Those photos from 1921 are OUTSTANDING and you won't see them from local TV newsies, or the Falling Star staff, as they're both part of the HIGH TAXES/CORPORATE WELFARE/MAYOR JAMES TRIAD.

Here's local TV news anymore: over-emphasis on weather, over-emphasis on traffic, celebrity gossip, shopping, funny cat videos, and virtually NO news on local government or how your taxpayer dollars are being wasted.

  22. A crowded football field would hold 15,000 to 20,000 persons. So if the crowd was 800,0000 that would be 40 football fields. Not to rain on anyone's parade but when our elected officials, fire and police chiefs deliberately lie about something it is disturbing. But it is more disturbing when the media repeat the claims when they should know they are false.

You losers should look up pyrrhic victory.

    ReplyDelete
  31. People were a lot smaller back in 1921, plus they didn't count niggers as people back then so I'd have to say there were at least 750,000 people there in 1921! Yessiree!!! But of course there was a conspiraciy then too to push down the crowd estimate because they didn't want to appear to be supporting a war by golly!!! Oh I'm sure of it!!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Damn bro... not one congratulations Royals or Kansas City, or anything?... you are a doom and gloom mammas boy

    ReplyDelete
  38. You may or may not hate Tony, but there is NO WAY there were 800K people down there.

    ReplyDelete
  39. This reminds of the fucking Holocaust hoax. (I can't wait for the comments for that sentence alone.)

It's math, people. The government is literally banking on your ignorance and stupidity.

-Estimate the square feet from Union Station and edge of the crowd in the background.

-Also, estimate the square feet of the people lining both sides of Grand and other streets of the parade route.

-Determine the average size of the people. I don't know how you're going to get the data, but figure half kids and half grown-ups since everyone was out of school, too. Give them some space here and there, and don't assume they were crammed like sardines.

-I forgot to mention to count spectators viewing the parade from buildings and rooftops.

If you follow this methodology, I guarantee you that the total head count would be no more than 300k tops.

Just another insecure "want to be" writer who isn't talented, original or intelligent enough to have any of ideas of substance or enlightenment to share with the world. So to make yourself feel important and the leader of lost souls. You what to constantly tell or write to people about how terrible the world is and we are all (especially you) being deceived, taken advantaged of... You sound like a 5 year old crying because he's not getting his way. Guess what?.. No one ever promised a perfect world. People like you, who despise life so much they want to bring everyone else down to their pathetic level by bitching and complaining. Telling all that's wrong but rarely, if any, solutions.. 43. Speaking of BIG NUMBERS......Loan Officer allegedly Scammed VETs and reaped Millions

Allegedly First National Bank & Trust of Junction City Kansas aka EXCHANGE

BANK loan officer Patricia "Lynn" Devine created dozens of fraudulent loan applications, Mortgages, Notes

& HUD statements using VETS info to submit as a FHA loan and a VA loan on the same home. Some loan applications had VA case numbers some didn't for the same property.

Allegedly Ms. Devine and operatives at her bank thru corespondent lender program allegedly fleeced over $20 million dollars in scheme that rivals TAYOR BEAN WHITAKER SCHEME right out of "American Greed" TV series

Many folks that have seen documents believe that allegedly First American title operatives assisted in scheme and

helped allegedly facilitate the fraud warehousing numerous documents that have different loan

numbers for same property and creating numerous title commitments for the

same property to go with loans being sold over and over again by Ms. Devine. One of the Banks had a whopping $280 billion in assets that they were allegedly fleecing. Whose gonna miss a few million Bucks?

What makes it SO BAD friends, is Ms. Devine access to Fort Riley Military Base soldiers in Junction City Kansas.

They allowed her to do home buying seminars. Folks believe many VET and Military personnel may

have allegedly gotten scammed or lost homes to foreclosure when multiple loans were logged into

banks under a FHA & VA loan for the same property.

  44. Let's stop bitchin' about dissent and realize that open arguments display the intelligence of participants. Suppose TKC isn't contrarian much and is mostly happy talk most of the time. See how fast that would bore. Banter in seriousness, jest or sarcasm presents occasions for bringing up possible solutions some may be seeking. TKC discourse can be cathartic at times. Verbal light-hearted jabs and vicious knockdowns can be at least entertaining, for some of us reading anyway. And who knows, away from this blog, TKC could be 180`difference. Can we allow public persona doesn't match the private in some. Uh, Rock Hudson, or Robin Williams perhaps?

    ReplyDelete
  45. I dont even know why I'm bothering to comment here. Maybe it's the fact that as much as I appreciate TKC normal local beat (internet scouring) reporting, I think he does a disservice to himself and his (my) city by being a Debbie Downer when it comes to this city's sports (sans Sporting KC). Anyway, I just wanted to point out that the KC Library link that is provided had a hyperlink of a picture of the proposed Liberty Memorial Site (ca 1920). http://www.kchistory.org/cdm4/item_viewer.php?CISOROOT=/Montgomery&CISOPTR=622
The description of this picture says it was taken looking SW at the corner of Main and (future) Pershing Rd. I took notice of the hill in the picture. This is the same hill that is featured in the foreground of the noted Dedication ceremony in 1921. If that's the case then the crowd in 1921 WAS much smaller than yesterday's crowd. Go check it out for yourself. The crowd yesterday extended well south of Pershing and nearly filled in the graded hill that exists today. (Which is not the same hill pictured in the 1920 proposed site or the 1921 ceremony pics)

Now I did see a falsified claim on Facebook from the KC Star saying "An estimated 800,000 people filled the entire space between Union Station and Liberty Memorial..." However, I truly believe that was a big BIG misprint and no one would argue the fact that 800,000 people would NOT fit in such a space.

I dont know how many people were in downtown KC yesterday. I know the girdlock it all caused and (having been at the parade itself) can definitely say without a doubt that spectators were an avg 7-10 deep along the route. Not including people in bldgs, on rooftops, in parking garages and elsewhere. So is 800K a lie? Maybe, but I believe it was greater than 250 or 300 and my guess would be over
500,000, but I'm no mathematician analyst. I'm just a KC Royals Fan that was proud of yesterday.

  51. People in this town have a hard time accepting the truth. It's much easier to lie and make false claims in an attempt to impress somebody you are as great as you think you are. But anybody that believes a single word that comes out a Mayor James's mouth as being the truth is somebody that should be declared a complete idiot and put into a mental health hospital.

Take the toy train for instance the biggest backers of the toy train and Power and Light district are people who don't even live in Kansas City Missouri. But they will get on the local blogs and scream and yell how great the toy train is for everybody knowing all along it will never cost them a dime or will they ever pay any personal property tax to support it.

Welcome to Kansas City Missouri where smoke and mirrors is how we do business.
