MUST READ: TRANSIT ACTIVIST CLAY CHASTAIN LAUNCHES LATEST EPIC LIGHT RAIL PETITION EFFORT THIS WEEK!!!

TKC NOTE: Here's word from one of Kansas City's most persistent petition fighters who will once again start a renewed effort to put a comprehensive light rail plan on the ballot. Take a look at the latest deets . . .

Chastain kicks off, at city hall, a history making light rail petition drive to repeat his “political miracle” of a decade ago.

Thursday October 15th at 3:00, outside the council chambers on the 26th floor, the only one to ever win a citywide rail election kicks off his petition drive to repeat that feat and place before Kansas City voters the greatest public transportation plan of them all!

If you’re for Kansas City you’ll be for Chastain’s plan (fast moving light rail and commuter trains with limited station stops and routes engineered to be spectacular) designed to garner wide popular appeal, enjoy high ridership, and be a financial success for our city.

A 30-mile light rail spine stretching all the way from the new Cerner Campus @ Bannister to a new Kansas City International Airport anchors the multimodal transit system and is designed to be Kansas City’s new gold mine.

Chastain’s proposed light rail-based transit system promises to make Kansas City great again by…

- Tying together a stream of urban energy stretching across the city.

- Connecting passengers to 40,000 jobs and creating 25,000 new jobs.

- Spawning a regional commuter rail system without a regional tax.

- Generating $20 billion in new economic development across the city and untold millions in new city revenues.

- Repurposing the north wing of Union Station as the hub where all the rail and bus lines flow together.

- Attracting back to the city a multitude of new residents and businesses looking for a more green, transit-oriented, and liveable city to call home.

It’s fabulous. It’s doable. It’s what we need!

See you there. Clay Chastain

  1. This is my favorite part:

"Spawning a regional commuter rail system without a regional tax."

Why should KCMO residents pay a sales tax that will build a commuter line out to JoCo?

Maybe if this plan didn't include stupid stuff like a commuter line to JoCo (which I mean is stupid because it's a KCMO sales tax to pay for it, not because it's inherently a stupid idea), a ferris wheel, and gondolas I might be more inclined to think it's a good idea ...

I'm sure he'll get the signatures he needs ...

  2. I'll support anything that messes with plans to expand the streetcar any further, which this does.

  3. Yeah, a $2 billion boondoggle is worth it to stop a $200 million boondoggle.

  6. YEA FOR CLAY !!! HOORAY for CLAY !! A vote for Clay is a vote for common sense, a better Kansas City, a MAJOR LEAGUE city.. THis would allow me to move to north CLAY COUNTY drive to a park and ride at the new BILLION DOLLAR AIRPORT and ride all the way to work at Cerner. YEA FOR CLAY.
Where are those dumb C.A.V.E. dwellers NOW. Our Mayor is right again we need to extend the rail. I heard that he and Clay were pretty friendly after Clay helped him beat General Lee in the Mayorial election. So I guess they are now pulling together to make this a FIRST CLASS CITY.

  7. "Our city"?? Clay doesn't live in KCMO.
