A former Kansas City scribe continues to struggle with media gigs in the new digital era.

SI: Jason Whitlock, ESPN part ways following website demotion
Deets . . .
ESPN: “We have mutually agreed to part ways, which was Jason's preference following the shift from his role as Editor-in-Chief. Jason is a talented print and television commentator, and we wish him success in his next chapter. ESPN remains fully committed to The Undefeated and plans continue toward an official launch.”
By far Mr. Whitlock was the most widely read and controversial columnist the Star has seen in a generation but now he's one of many of his colleagues currently looking for work in places ranging from used car dealerships in Topeka, writing sappy tribute coffee-table books to clean up child sex scandals or doing PR for corporations.

Well, I guess that those "hot takes" full of Ball State and Jeff George references just got a little bit old.
ReplyDeleteWhy does this not surprise me in any way.
ReplyDeleteGosh, Tony--this is a first. You posted a photo with five boobs in it!!
ReplyDeleteDat dress.
ReplyDeletePretty soon it will be you shilling cars, too, or doing communications work.
Blogs are last decade. Streaming is the new thing.
Maybe, ESPN objected to this photo.
ReplyDeleteWE object you you Byron ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
ReplyDeleteFive boobs thats a good one!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteJocopost said it right that's funny dude.
ReplyDeleteI like Jason Whitlock, because he doesn't hesitate to call out people like Serena Williams, no matter the blowback. As long as a black media figure just tows the politically correct line, they can literally get away with murder (see Ray Lewis). Or be a former sexual predator (see Mike Torico).
ReplyDeleteWhitlock is done. He needs to go into PR or marketing.
ReplyDeleteLet me fill you in on a secret. Tony Kornheiser and Mike Wilbon got him that ESPN job. And he did nothing with it. In fact Whitlock has burned almost every bridge he ever had.

KC Star
Fox Sports
Now ESPN.
They probably gave him a huge check. He is still doing better than most.
ReplyDeleteWhitlock was a massive talent -- he just hasn't done much the last several -
ReplyDeletehope he catches on somewhere - and actually starts writing a column again.
Great read
He actually told it like it was in the world of sports during his Czar days. The better one compared to Joe "Aw Shucks" Polanski, and certainly way better than the two current, scrawny jock sniffers the paper has now: Lame Sam and Pedantic Andy.
ReplyDelete@7:40pm. Nuff said. Whitlock is in the way of his own success because he is an asshole. Plain and simple.
ReplyDeleteBig Sexy had his moments. He doesn't seem like much of a manager but a hell of a writer to be sure.
ReplyDeleteTony, you need to print more pictures of hot chicks sticking a nipple in some dude's ear.
ReplyDeleteWe really eat that shit up down here in Leawood.
