COWTOWN DOWNTOWN CONVENTION HOTEL IRONY: LAWYER MAYOR SLY JAMES & ATTORNEY MIKE BURKE CREATE LEGAL BIND FOR KANSAS CITY!!!

Turns out Mayor Sly's legal background has only brought potential courtroom trouble to Kansas City and a tragic impasse that pits developers against voters thanks to a politico who refused to let the public have a say before moving forward.

Here's a great roundup of the current crisis and Kansas City caught betwixt two potential lawsuits in this project developed by local power player and super lawyer Mike Burke . . .

Lawsuits Loom From Both Sides On Kansas City Convention Hotel Ballot Measure
And here's what can't be stressed enough . . .

THIS TENSE LEGAL BATTLE WAS CREATED BY MAYOR SLY'S RUSH TO PUSH THROUGH TAX SUBSIDY LEGISLATION WITHOUT MUCH TESTIMONY OR INPUT FROM THE PUBLIC . . . JUST LIKE THE RIGGED TOY TRAIN STREETCAR VOTE HE HELPED TO CHAMPION!!!

Developers and voters have a tense relationship but have managed to coexist with each other without a legal showdown for more than two decades of this subsidy.

Now, Sly brings Kansas City to the point of crisis and a standoff because of his arrogance and refusal to involve residents, other council members or any questions into this process. Turns out, when things get really tense he starts yelling at people like their his employees.

Reality . . . Kansas City giving away millions with barely 30 minutes of public testimony during the middle of the day is nothing less than a travesty.

The future: This local political boss promised that he was a great mediator and negotiator when he first ran for office. So far he has been great about getting his way BUT NOW MORE THAN EVER it's time for Mayor Sly James to display his so-called skill for compromise that Kansas City hasn't seen so far.

Developing . . .

  4. Let the developer sue the City. Recall Sky James and any other councilperson who voted for it.

  6. No way that MOU is enforceable. The developer, Mike Burke or whoever is behind him, hasn't produced his funding, and until he does, the City is not obligated to do anything. Let the initiative petition proceed!

  7. Let's be extremely BLUNT and explain Mayor James attitude as this:

"The public doesn't know SHIT! I'm working for the business community which funded my campaign, not the public, and if they don't like it, well that's just too bad!"

  8. OMG, is RIGGED TOY TRAIN worse or better than TOY TRAIN?

I am telling you, this Tony guy has a command of language and humor that makes me laugh so hard, my testicles fall off.

You would think he would be on Ruckus more often.

Is that why you've made this comment every day, throughout the day for more than a month?

  10. Isn't it tragic that Kansas City is home to some of the country's dumbest lawyers and judges.

  11. Agree with 1:38. If that contract does not have a termination for convenience clause as well as some appropriate contingency clauses, the city's procurement division needs to be publicly executed and their testicles given to 2:59, who seems to need an extra pair.

  12. Stop the deal and fire city legal, they are supposed to protect KC and not the mayor.

  13. Gotta love the arrogance. "What do you mean you are pissed off because I spend your money without your consent"?

  14. The taxpayers are screwed.......as usual.

  15. So far it seems that the mayor & the council would rather risk pissing off the voters than take on a lawsuit from the developers. In the end, this hotel will get built, as is the streetcar & the P&L

  16. Here are some new "deets"..... Word on the street has it that Peregrine Honig is designing Tony's new "conductor outfit" for the Toy Train maiden trip thru Crossroads to the turnaround in the back parking lot of Union Station.

No "word" yet if George Guestello will have a matching outfit.

Additional "deets", TKC has been overheard practicing his "All Aboard" call and has volunteered to work the Pumpkin Patch train south of Liberty thru Thanksgiving.
