CELEBRATE THE JACKSON COUNTY EXEC MIKE SANDERS TOY TRAIN VAPORWARE!!!

The Jackson County Exec must really be worried if he polished this gem and sent it out to the media.

Here's transit news that will never happen . . .

KC Biz Journal: Jackson County, KCATA get together on commuter-rail effort

Deets:

"Jackson County and the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority are pooling their resources to buy rail right-of-way that one day could be part of a countywide commuter-rail system.

"On Wednesday, Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders and KCATA CEO Joe Reardon announced that the county and the regional transit authority had agreed to terms making it possible for the county to buy about 18 miles of rail running from just northwest of the intersection of Interstates 70 and 435 in Kansas City southeast through Raytown and Lee's Summit."

Again, we must note . . .

IF THIS TRAIN EVER LEAVES THE STATION WE WILL SHUT DOWN THIS BLOG FOR A WEEK IN ORDER TO SPEND ALL DAY ENJOYING THE IMAGINARY EASTERN JACK TRAIN!!!

On the bright side, this kind of presser silliness is when TKC celebrates that fact that this blog is not a newspaper and doesn't have to attend or report these kinds of presser events with a straight face.

More to the point . . .

THE MIKE SANDERS TRAIN WILL NEVER HAPPEN AND IT'S NOTHING BUT A CYNICAL DISTRACTION HE PULLS OUT WHENEVER HE'S BORED, FEELING LONELY OR IN MORE POLITICAL TROUBLE!!!

Year after year the exec uses this political scheme as a substitute for news and now amid a jail crisis and feds continuing to poke around the county . . . He carts this one out AGAIN and local media is forced with regurgitate one of many local transit lies.

Developing . . .

"buy rail right-of-way that one day could be part of a countywide commuter-rail system."

Will they be riding bikes on the tracks?

Careful TKC, this is a crazy person who seems dangerous.

  4. This is good work by Sanders. His efforts deserve to be supported! Obviously this blog can't see the big picture and is too dense to understand regional transit. .

  5. What......thought Skippy was going to be led from courthouse in shackles and cuffs.

Wait.....bullshit meter just blew up. OMG...shit went everywhere.

Insider deets seem to be blown out a gaping asshole swollen by x-lax overdosing.

Choo Choo, that train be a coming.

    Take your meds Paul.

  7. Damn, when I read TOY TRAIN, I just can't stop laughing. That's got to be the most clever term fashioned by man.

Please help me find my nuts, because I lost them when I dropped from my amusement.

I thought Sanders had left per Tony's insiders. You mean he's back?

    Ebola soon Numbnutz?

  8. Keep up the good work Paul and you might soon be washing cars with your buddy, wildman!

  9. No way, Paul would never stoop to that level. The man loves jazz AND he has an ear ring. I like Paul. He's got personality. Don't pick on him.

  10. Why is this even news. When did a bike trail become news?

    ReplyDelete
  11. It's news because Skippy says its news? Don't you know?

    ReplyDelete
  12. 5:16: Lost your nuts? That train has left the station.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Not nuts, testicles.

Damn, even now, that cracks me up.

    Toy Airport Tony? Please?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Your testicles? Ask Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny. There all in the same place.

  15. Just keep in mind that these are the same county legislative geniuses who for years couldn't manage to provide decent property assessment and tax bills and who just found out that somehow the county jail is a disaster.
Let's give them a few hundred million of our federal tax dollars so that they can give building and running an empty train a shot!
Just another grandiose and empty gesture and a distraction for the voters from realizing how poorly the county is run and how much of their tax money disappears into thin air.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Tony, why don't you just fuck this Sanders guy in the ass and be done with it?? You seem to have a lot of pent up sexual frustration towards him.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Yeah ... It's not for a train, ever.
It's for the 37 or so hipsters with fancy-colored spandex outfits and $4,000 bikes to create their own magical playground at taxpayer expense. The whole rail-trail scam is the same.

    ReplyDelete
  18. What about a bike trail to the airport? As in send these libtards on a plane to get their asses out of town. Millions for bike trials. A city where the scam artists never sleep.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Wake up....this ain't just a bike trail -- IT WILL BE RICKSHAW ROAD !!! When the unions are killed off and car makers are all located in Asia (remember TPP?) we'll be pulling rickshaws for our Chinese bosses !!! Pope Francis will be pleased with Kansas City's "climate change"?

  20. To anyone that thinks this is a good idea. The county did a study on this idea a few years ago. And to cover cost to even pay off this and not counting annual maintenance will cost $30 to ride a day. So if you are attending a Royals game with your family of 4 it will cost $120 before you get in the stadium!! Nice job Mike!!! also there are plenty of failed transit systems in this country. This train will be very similar to Nashville's. To promote growth in East Nashville they created a train. Like KC not to many business are located in downtown Nashville(but they have a great tourist scene unlike cow town). Mike's a fool and people should have voted for that Brice guy. But looks like Brice will be rewarded with your tax dollars anyways once the county pays him off for the harassment he received from running against mike and sharp. As a county employee I'm getting ready to run for office to collect my retirement check they will give me to go away :)

  21. Lots of confused people on this one!

There have been plans to turn this abandoned rail line into an extension of the Katy Trail for years and years.

Sanders is however talking about using this rail line for commuter rail. So yes, he's talking about trains, Toy Trains, whatever you want to call it.

Regardless, if you've ever walked along a stretch of this corridor in the last decade or so, you would notice it's nearly completely deteriorated. There are trees growing between the rails, the railroad ties are rotted, the rails are missing in places, etc. To reactivate this line for passenger trains would require a gutting of the deteriorated infrastructure, re-grading the land, and new ties and rails be laid. That's a lot more money that Sanders statement would imply. TKC is correct.....this is largely political rhetoric from a troubled politico.
