TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY CONVENTION & TOURISM TAX QUESTIONS EMERGE AT SUMMER'S END!!!
The official end of Summer approaches, Labor Day is getting closer and Kansas City's flimsy tax structure is being called into question by our blog community.
Here's the word from a KICK-ASS KANSAS CITY INSIDER that puts the problem in the proper perspective . . .
"Convention and tourism tax is currently funding NTDF, visitKC (40%), new convention hotel, and possibly the Bartle Hall roof, which was already budgeted for out of PIAC funds last year not used on streetcar. How can there be that much $$$ in convention tax to use on all this? "
The answer . . .
CONVENTION AND TOURISM TAX IS HURTING AS MAYOR SLY, MOST OF THE COUNCIL AND JUST ABOUT EVERY CONSULTANT IN TOWN GET READY FOR AN E-TAX FULL COURT PRESS FOR A TOWN THAT DESPERATELY NEEDS THE CASH!!!
Over the past few weeks we've seen that there's not much KCMO cash to mow lawns, fix infrastructure or fill jobs at city hall . . . And so, a Kansas City upcoming e-tax is just one more opportunity to boost City Hall coffers and get ready to go back to voters with infrastructure sales tax, more spikes in local fees and increased motorist ticketing designed to boost revenue.
Developing . . .
Shell game, duh TKC! This money will probably end up in Alaska or as part of the streetcar expansion round II.
ReplyDeleteKC = Shell Game detroit
ReplyDeleteThe Convention and Tourism tax is a higher tax than all the taxes combined most cities have. It is outrageous!!! Its damn near 8%, add in another 8% in other city taxes, then county taxes, then arena fee and you see why people complain about the nearly 20% you pay on hotels in kc.
ReplyDeleteLets breakdown the taxes on hotels in Kansas City.
ReplyDeleteSales tax - 8.475%
Convention & Tourism Tax - 7.5%
Arena Fee - $1.50 + tax (on the fee, a fricking tax ON A TAX! FTW!)
County Taxes - Varies by county
That is an INCREDIBLE tax rate. And it hurts hotel business, and the hotels that are HURT by the tax, are paying the tax to build a COMPETITOR's HOTEL!!! FTW!!!!!
Kansas City's hotel taxes are higher than CHICAGO, higher than frickin CHICAGO!!!
ReplyDeleteSly can live without the earnings tax. There has been dozens of new apartment buildings going up downtown, because of the streetcar. The real estate taxes generated by these structures should easily replace the lost revenue from the earning tax.
ReplyDeleteKCMO has the 4th highest taxes on tourist of any city in the US. It is amazing that the anyone would bring their convention here.
ReplyDelete9:18 Was that tongue-in-cheek?
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that PIAC funds were obtained for the Bartle Roof.... seriously.... I supported the e-tax renewal last time... probably won't this time...
ReplyDeleteOnly the NIGGERS pay taxes.
ReplyDeleteJust ay NO. Repeatedly.
ReplyDeleteIs the Arena Tax really taxable? A tax on a tax? Is that correct? Anyone know?
ReplyDeleteThis is all corrupt gangster shit designed to hide the fact that KC's economic viability was destroyed long ago by a) the end of Prohibition and the Pendergast Machine and b) the flight of its middle and wealthy classes since the '68 riots. Time to start calling this area what it actually is: the Overland Park metro.
ReplyDeleteWow, loads of MO tags on those cars at Prairie Fire and Legends. Guess that's fair, since lots of KS going to the stadiums and casinos.
ReplyDeleteVoted for the earnings tax last time this time I'm going to go no there's just way too much waste in this town
ReplyDeleteIt's the new math, buddy. Carry the one...
ReplyDeleteThis is reason enough to vote against the E-tax. What a shame.
ReplyDeleteI thought King Sly invited all the queers here fora big party right after the Republicans told him to stick KC.
ReplyDeleteUntil city hall demonstrates some fiscal responsibility not a damn cent!
