Examiner: Prosecutor says KC anti-crime initiative is working

"An effort to reduce violent crime in Kansas City is showing signs of working, to the benefit of the entire county and beyond, says Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker.
“We will not sit back and be quiet and wait for the next act of violence to occur,” Peters Baker told county legislators earlier this week.
"She indicated that the program, the Kansas City No Violence Alliance, can be extended to other areas, and she noted that homicides have decreased recently in Eastern Jackson County: seven in 2012, eight in 2013, four in 2014 and two so far this year.
"Most of Peters Baker’s presentation to the Legislature was focused on Kansas City itself, where she said figures show “how persistently stubborn violence is.” She said Chicago typically gets attention for its particularly high murder rate but that statistically Kansas City is actually worse."

Sadly, most local media don't offer much detailed crime coverage and simply want to report good news about anti-crime efforts. At the very least, we respect Mean Jean for attempting to drill down into the often scary local crime data.
