This week Kansas City Insiders were surprised to see 4th District At-Large Council Lady Katheryn Shields continue to show up to committee meetings where Mayor Sly didn't assign her.
To wit . . .
COUNCIL LADY KATY SHIELDS CRASHING COMMITTEE MEETINGS IS RAISING EYEBROWS AND INSIDERS ARE WARNING THAT SHE'S NOT GONNA STOP ANY TIME SOON!!!
Behind the scenes, loyalists to Mayor Sly want to see committee chairs crackdown on the Council woman.
"(Councilman and Finance Committee Chair Scott) Wagner needs to put a stop to this. Put her out in the cheap seats and regulate her time . . . He needs to stop being scared of her." A Mayor Sly friend recently told TKC.
Don't expect that to happen any time soon. Here's the rundown of Council Lady Katie's accomplishments this week.
- She's not assigned to the airport committee but she dominated the Q&A portion of the meeting.
- She has earned a chair at the front of the table on the Finance Committee and even earns a seat right next to Council Dude Wagner.
- Council Lady Katy even crashed Mayor Sly's KC Stat meetup and schmoozed the City Hall employees.
Even more fun . . . It was obvious that 4th District Council Lady Jolie Justus was getting a little bit annoyed but was unable to stifle the far more experienced legislator.
And so . . . Behind the scenes and according to KC Insiders, this power move has Mayor Sly's team a bit unnerved and not wanting to risk starting a battle with the Council that's clearly underway already.

Wagner vs. Shields? That one is easy to predict.

In act two, the gang will give away another few hundred million in TIFs and tax abatement.
But every circus has three rings.
Maybe the comedy will turn tragic by residents figuring out how much debt they've been saddled with for the next few decades.

ReplyDelete7:47 When was the last time we saw 3% growth? I thought we were stuck at ~2.5%. Be careful using the first #'s reported. They are ALWAYS revised 2 or 3 quarters later.
8:05 And the revision is nearly always downward, and the revised numbers get little to no press or air time. Which causes me to believe that somebody is using growth numbers as a propaganda tool.

ReplyDeleteWhat a dumbass comment to make. Of course she has a vote, as does every council person. KCMO legislative process lesson no. 1. Once a legislative proposal is voted out of committee, it is subject to a vote by the entire council.

Fact is she is asking good questions. They just don't want any questions asked.
Shields is the proverbial bull in the china shop. In the end she will make a mistake and no one will be around to bail her out.
ReplyDeleteI guess you have to ask yourself this: Why is Sly so intent on isolating the single Council Member with the most experience in actual government. And, what is going on that he is so intent on not allowing that experienced person to even ask questions?
