TKC FIRST LOOK: KANSAS CITY DOWNTOWN ART IN THE LOOP 2015 KICK-OFF!!!

The TKC blog community doesn't know much about art but we know what we hate . . . Which is mostly all things hipster and pretty much everything else for that matter . . .

Nevertheless . . .

Take a look at a Kansas City artsy effort that's going to be creating a lot of buzz around this town during the Summer months . . .

Description . . .

From singers, dancers, and musicians to a photographer, and a textile artist, the annual Art in the Loop project infuses downtown Kansas City with a variety of performances and exhibits.

A total of 20 presenters or groups of presenters – offering 11 performances and nine exhibits – are featured in this year’s Art in the Loop, which is designed to bring cultural experiences to downtown employees, residents, and visitors and lend exposure to emerging and maturing artists from the Kansas City area. Most, if not all, will participate in the kickoff.

Tonight we visited the event for just a sec and here's a look at some of the artsy genius we encountered . . .

Special note . . . About at 1/3rd of this art will be more or less singing the praises of the toy train streetcar . . .

Still, there was a lot excitement surrounding tonight's kick-off and overall people seemed supportive of the Kansas City project . . .

Don't get it twisted, there's some really brilliant stuff that will be on display thanks to this project . . . And then there's stuff that's not so good. None of this is a problem until locals understand that they're paying for a lot of this effort yet don't really get an opportunity to comment, critique or offer any suggestion. Overall, the Downtown development "ram-through" and "win at all costs" mentality is part of the Kansas City arts scene as well.

Most of these artists don't want  criticism of their work and the format doesn't really invite public discourse . . . Reality: Kansas City art criticism has been long dead and replaced with social media promotion. Worse still, any artist showing even a glimmer of talent is quickly co-opted by local elites and given a pittance of grant cash to assure their silence or social commentary. There are Kansas City artists who break the mold but they are few and far between . . . Accordingly, for the most part, public artsy displays this Summer don't say much about the reality of local life and they're merely a self-indulgent celebration sponsored by corporate patrons hoping to promote the illusion that Kansas City has a real arts scene.

You decide . . .

  2. If earnestness could be packaged and sold, KCMO would be the export capital of the world. And, of course, it already is the arts and innovation/tech capital of the USA.
But until the guy who lies on the floor in a body bag shows up, they've got nothing!

If Tony lives in his mom's basement, where does he go for shelter during a tornado?

  4. Yes. We know what we hate. NIGGERS.

I come from a long line of nigger hating family members. My father really hated them and my mom hated them because they were always caught stealing from the grocery store she worked in. Niggers use their shitskin color get everything handed to them and when they don't get their way the scream "racism". They are feral in the way they live and torment humans by committing acts of violence against them. The list goes on and on. They wreck every neighborhood they live in and do not know how to conduct themselves in a civil way. They are just a disgrace at everything they do. Niggers are the ones who are destroying this country and many other countries as well.

  8. It's just a fad, like walking and living in places that don't have empty parking lots all around them!

Downtowns and art: the fads that last for hundreds of thousands of years!
