The other day I overheard a rather talented barista trying to explain H.A.M. to his coworker . . . It was a giveaway that the slang term was now passé and at least 4 years out of date BUT hipsters claiming that they're going "Hard As a Motherfu@#r" into the weekend was still worth a bit of a giggle and a welcomed distraction from more serious online granny dating research.
It's Kansas City First Friday and right now a bevy of causal drug users calling themselves artists are people watching and getting wasted in the Crossroads without much of a ruckus.
However . . . Good times have a way of turning horrific really fast in Kansas City.

Some Kansas City neighborhoods sound like a war zone with bombs going off throughout the day and there really is no stopping this illegal local tradition . . . Police have resorted to asking locals to be careful not to blow their hands off . . .
And so we hope for the best as we 4th approaches and Kansas City makes or breaks already increasing violence so far this year.

Serious question about Vets and PTSD. Why am I just now hearing about this? Both of my grandfathers were in WWII and had no problem with fire works. Same with both of my wife's grandfathers. My dad was wounded in Korea. My father-in-law was in Vietnam. They don't have problems with fire works. I don't get why now? I'm not saying they don't have PTSD so don't get me wrong.

Sheeee-eeet, our dad (US Air Force/Fire Capt.) & friend (US Army/Police Capt.) shot hundreds of the biggest, best boomers in our neighborhood over 30 years ago. Loads of vets got 'shell-shocked' and suffered through it. So, that's why work, wives, a bunch of kids, church, coaching, scouting, hunting and fishing or another hobby, was a mainstay. If lucky, these battle scarred in our midst, managed responsibilities pretty well between stops at the local bar(s), legion halls, etc.

ReplyDelete8:44 It is a delicate issue for many men, but PTSD is now talked about and should be. Anyone who experienced tragic and violent acts, whether by directly witness to such, or in surroundings where the violence could happen again (war, most likely), may find it difficult to cope with negative emotional or psychological effects. Professional intervention is no longer stigmatized. Well, maybe the neanderthals who never hug their kids or tell their family that they love them, are too Rambo for their own good.

There would be pride of community, public art at every major intersection, walkable gardens in well maintained, safe parks. Without leeches and parasites to drain us, universal health care and strong social safety nets would be a given as society would be made up of providers and contributors inclined to build the best country possible to live in. You would not only know your neighbor, but you would trust him. You wouldn't have the constant low level anxiety ramping up your cortisol levels with the fear that today will be the day you get the phone call that your parents have been murdered in a home invasion by niggers or this will be the day a nigger ape rapes your wife, or this will be the day niglets who have been bussed in to your community schools bully your son so badly he tries to kill himself.

ReplyDelete9:42, imagining a black-free America is easy, because anyone who deals with niggers on a regular basis has thought about how much better things would be without the jigaboo anchor chained around their neck. Imagining how bad things would get in a more-spadey America is what got us here. There's a reason that nighers have been slaves for centuries around the world. As a whole, they're incapable of being productive except at the end of a whip. They're incapable of controlling their impulses and being civilized except through violent oppression. They're incapable of handling money and wealth and making forward-thinking decisions, and unable to care for their offspring as civilized people do.

ReplyDeleteMaybe there's more PTSD now because this country is still at war for the longest time in its history. Fewer and fewer people are bearing the burden of war on their forth, fifth and sixth 18 month deployments fighting an enemy they can't see, that is constantly blowing them up from afar.
