SHOCK!!! KANSAS CITY FAIR WAGE FIGHT CONTINUES WITH PETITION BATTLE!!!

Missourians for Fair Wages is a hastily assembled group of small biz people hoping to turn back the recent (and illegal) effort to raise the minimum wage in Kansas City. They started their petition effort today . . .

Thanks to low voter turnout, they'll have to meet a very low threshold in order to the get their challenge on the ballot. A few calls to friends, relatives and some forced employees will do the trick of earning 3,400 valid signatures.

Meanwhile . . .

JOBS WITH JUSTICE RAGES OVER THE PETITION TO BLOCK HIGHER KANSAS CITY MINIMUM WAGES!!!

Here's a report from earlier today:

JOBS WITH JUSTICE CONDEMNS ABUSE OF REFERENDUM PROCESS TO DELAY IMPLEMENTATION OF KANSAS CITY’S NEW MINIMUM WAGE ORDINANCE

And even better . . .

THERE'S ANOTHER PETITION COMING SOON HOPING TO RAISE THE KCMO MINIMUM WAGE TO A FULL $15!!!

That one is courtesy of the revs and social justice workers who have already have their petition on file.

And so . . . Low voter turnout has brought us to a place where a litany of special interests are working to change the law by way of petition . . . And creating political confusion.

And here's what no other media outlet is willing to note . . .

BLAME KANSAS CITY MINIMUM WAGE CHAOS ON MAYOR SLY'S REFUSAL TO TELL VOTERS: THESE PETITIONS DON'T COMPLY WITH MISSOURI STATUTES ALREADY ON THE BOOKS!!!

The mayor failed to properly mediate this struggle and instead worked only to gain election glory and become a leader of a mob rather than stand up and provide disappointing information.

Again, we respect the efforts of fair wage fighters and all people working to secure more money but over and over again these plebs have been misled by so many people. In the end, given so much obvious deception and misinformation rampant in the local political process, these protestors might be better off looking elsewhere in Kansas City for more cash.

  1. But I thought the Mayor was a great mediator?

He was going to give these folks more money, right?

I believed in him. I thought his cause was just.

  5. We're in a DEPRESSION! There aren't enough jobs for CITIZENS and we still have the Crony Capitalists clamoring for more low wage immigrants. This silly wage thing is just a distraction. By the way, what did Hisoner Rev Cleaver pay at "the car wash"? Livable wage, I'm sure.

Sly isn't even trying to LEAD the mob.
He's the panderer in chief who can't resist the temptation to promise everything to everyone...and it's all FREE!
That makes everything frosty and makes him popular and that's what running a city is all about, right?
    Until the bills come due.

    Mr. Tony,
I was just wondering... You know these business owners aren't standing in front of Price Chopper getting signatures. Can you find out how much they are paying the downtrodden to get the job done?

    Thank you.

I will be glad to know just who these rotten bastards are so that I can shop, eat and spend leisure dollars elsewhere.

  10. ....in related job news

It's another bad-news story for the US newspaper industry: newsroom jobs slumped another 10.4 percent to the lowest level since tracking began in 1978.

The annual survey by the American Society of News Editors released Tuesday found newsroom employment dropped to 32,900 in 2014 from 36,700 a year earlier.

The survey highlighted the ongoing hemorrhaging at traditional news organizations as readers turn to online sources of information.

But the results also showed some gains in large-circulation newspapers and some very small ones.

ASNE found the number of employees at newspapers with daily circulations between 250,000 and 500,000 increased by 13.98 percent.

Those with circulations under 5,000 had a 15.9 percent increase in the number of employees.

But the drop was a whopping 21.58 percent among newspapers with circulations between 100,000 and 250,000.

Ken Doctor, a media analyst at the research firm Outsell, said the job losses were notable in a growing economy.

"If we project the recent decline forward, we'll have one-half the number of daily journalists working in 2016 or 2017 as we did 16 years ago," he said in a blog post.

"And this year's loss happened in the best US economy in close than a decade. Daily newspapers have bled people in good times and bad."

Newspaper employment peaked in 2011 at 56,400, according to ASNE.

Doctor said there are only around 10 US dailies with a circulation of about 250,000, and the data suggests they are investing for growth.

  12. The good news is we only have 4 more years to put up with the arrogant Sly James. Thank God for term limits.

  13. Anyone have any idea what the penalty is for refusing to pay the new min wage Sly shoved up small biz owners collective ass? Im betting thats where this pandering piece of shit will get squashed, in appeals court over fines for refusing to recognize the ordinance.

  14. Unbelievable, they condemn the referendum process? Only reason we are in this mess is because of the SCLC original ballot initiative to try and get a $15 minimum wage.

    HYPOCRITES!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Well said 8:09!! Mayor James himself said that the JwJ petition caused the mess. By the way - NO ONE has to start paying the minimum wage because of the referendum petition. City web site states that the ordinance is not a law because of the referendum

  16. Why are we even discussing this. That silly assed pandering ordinance is going nowhere. The real issue is how much tax payer money is going to be burned defending an ordinance the whole fucking world knows is bogus? Second, how many businesses are going to be forced to defend themselves against illegal legislating at the city level? Guess who ends up paying for this dog an pony show bullshit. Are there any adults in city government? Hello?
