Our blog community told readers about this shin-dig back in June but now City Hall finally decided to put out official word with a presser that also promotes hot dog swallowing fun along with the event . . . Which may or may not be a subliminal message about the next 4 years.

Public invited to attend City’s Inauguration Ceremony

Official swearing-in ceremony for 2015-2019 Mayor and City Council

The City of Kansas City, Missouri is pleased to invite the public to attend Kansas City’s Inauguration Ceremony at 10 a.m. on Aug. 1, 2015 at the historic Gem Theater. The Inauguration Ceremony will mark the official swearing-in of the 2015-2019 Mayor and City Council, as well as the first Legislative Session for the Council’s 2015-2019 term.

What: Kansas City’s Inauguration Ceremony
When: Aug. 1, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.; doors open at 9:30 a.m.
Where: Gem Theater, 1601 E. 18th St.
Who: Mayor Sly James and members of Kansas City’s 2015-2019 City Council

Members of the public who are unable to attend the Inauguration Ceremony may view the proceedings on Channel 2 or online at www.kcmo.gov. The 2015-2019 term will be the second term for Mayor James; Kansas City’s 12-person council is comprised of three returning members and nine new members.

Following the ceremony, Mayor Sly James encourages residents to explore and experience Kansas City’s historic 18th and Vine Jazz District. Mayor Sly James will kick-off the 2015 Heart of America Hot Dog Festival at 11:30 a.m. with an official opening ceremony. The festival will take place at 1616 E. 18th Street; proceeds from the festival will support the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.

  1. May not always agree with our Mayor but I really do they have better security for this one then they did the last time the Mayor was at the Gem and was embarrassed on national TV.

  8. I suppose the taxpayers will have to pay for the use of the Gem Theater for this event, a place that already gets yearly taxpayer funding just to keep the doors open. It's so easy for politicians to piss away other people's money.
