Despite today's Pyrrhic victory, the administration of Kansas City Mayor Sly James was hobbled and disgraced in the latest lawsuit that questioned his election eligibility over consistent late tax payment.
Sadly, the "win at all costs" Mayor can't seem to learn that some fights must be avoided.

NOW JACKSON COUNTY LEGISLATOR FRANK WHITE TAKES THE CROWN AS KANSAS CITY'S MOST UNIVERSALLY BELOVED AFRICAN-AMERICAN ELECTED OFFICIAL!!!
Just a few points to back up this assertion . . .
- We're mostly talking about "beloved" by white people here . . . And they're making all the big campaign donations so they're important. Sure, Frank White has the support for Freedom, Inc. but he also counts Mr. Peanut as his benefactor.
- Nobody knows what Jackson County does, just ask Fred Arbanas . . . Seriously, if Frank White doesn't press it this could be a job that could take him into retirement and beyond. Old school jocks last FOREVER on the Legislature.
- Every baseball season Frank White's popularity grows . . . For Frank White to grow more popular simply requires a winning streak by the Royals. Meanwhile, Mayor Sly is stuck waiting around for the toy train streetcar to pay off.
There's a danger here . . .
JaxCo Legislator Frank White could misinterpret his popularity with power as Mayor Sly has done. No, he's not really a challenger to Mike Sanders . . . Think of him more as a much more likeable sidekick like Kato and The Green Hornet.
Still, as Spring turns into Summer and Mayor Sly battles some hobo for reelection . . . It's Frank White who stays winning. Natch.

ReplyDeleteFrank White wasn't the best man for the job. He won because of his baseball affiliation and not because of his skills, or lack thereof, in negotiating or bringing about change. Sly, on the other hand, is just a bully and a crook! Sly's term will go down in history rivaling that of Pendegast!

ReplyDeleteBad news. If the new guy is gaining in popularity because he's, well gaining in popularity, the old gang is going to try to compete by the usual giving away of taxpayer money to as many insider groups as possible.
ReplyDeleteAnd just remember, popularity is what's important, not accomplishing much of anything.
Just keep electing people who continue to buy you off using your own money. A sure way to make things better is by doing the same things with the same kinds of people you have for decades.
