Earlier this morning we focused on Freedom,Inc's slate that has 4 strong contenders making their way to the City Council . . . Now, let's take a look at Kansas City's largest Latino advocacy organization . . . La Raza Political Club . . . It seems they're going with a Council slate that doesn't include any Latinos, not even a longtime Westside resident and civic advocate.
We've already covered this but just as a reminder . . . Here's why La Raza doesn't like John Fierro:
- They don't (will never) forgive him for supporting former Mayor Funkhouser in a controversy over an anti-immigration advocate and member of a hate group.
- Classic leadership struggle and differing personalities.
- Division betwixt Westside/Midtown vs. Northeast as populations shift.
Meanwhile, it's not clear if the La Raza snub really hurts Mr. Fierro given that some folks might see the lack of affiliation with this group as a bonus . . . AND just about everybody knows that Jolie Justus is going to win thanks to a far bigger bank account and a huge margin of victory in the primary.
