TKC SUNDAY SPECIAL!!! KILLING COWTOWN TRADITION: KANSAS CITY VIOLENT TEEN FLASH MOB LEGACY DECIMATES ANNUAL COUNTRY CLUB PLAZA PROM SEASON!!!
Back years ago when the violent teen flash mob craze started anew on the Country Club Plaza, a tragic tale of a prom princess dunked in one of the fountains by youngsters on a rampage shocked all of the while people in the metro area.
There was no report that the victim of the attack was hurt, so TKC thought it was hilarious and a valuable life lesson.
Nevertheless, amid a longstanding problem that still hasn't met with a permanent solution, this year there is a noticeable decline in annual prom biz that was formerly a local tradition.
To wit . . .
KANSAS CITY INSIDERS REPORT THAT PROM BIZ ON THE PLAZA HAS PRECIPITOUSLY DECLINED AND PARENTS ARE ADVISING THEIR YOUNGSTERS AWAY FROM A STROLL IN THE BELEAGUERED ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICT ON PROM NIGHT!!!
This story was inspired by just a bit of casual observation and talking with a few servers in the area who agreed that prom biz is off...
And then, there was this message . . .
"TKC, hope your mayor and city council enjoy the consequences of their inaction. This year I will not allow my daughter to celebrate prom on the Plaza after she was accosted and threatened last year. This is her senior prom and I just don't want to risk anything happening to her when she has such a bright future.
"Years ago, my oldest daughter celebrated every prom night with dinner on the Plaza and she was featured in the movie Prom Night in Kansas City but this year I was able to persuade my youngest daughter's date to find another location for their dinner plans (picking up the bill didn't hurt the matter).
"I've advised all of my neighbors and friends to do the same after seeing the chaos that still exists on the Plaza. Even with police officers on every street corner there are little thugs and crazy people down there who pose a real danger. I won't risk it with my daughter and I am only writing you to let you know that I'm saddened that my former hometown has faded so horribly.
"I no longer tell people that I'm from Kansas City. I proudly declare that Lenexa, Kansas is my home and I identify with Johnson County and not the place where I grew up and lived over 30 years before leaving to raise my family.
"I wish I had a solution for you but that is for YOUR Mayor and leaders to figure out. For me, it's just a matter of safety that I try to keep my family away from the plaza rather than pretend that the danger doesn't exist . . ."
The message goes on from there and I'm pretty sure this dweeb used a racial slur against me at some point.
Still . . . The question remains . . .
IS THE PLAZA SAFE FOR PROM SEASON?!?!?
We DO NOT advise TKC readers to start cruising the high schools looking for prom dates in order to find the answer BUT there is no doubt that this is just another local tradition which remains in jeopardy as the perception of Kansas City as a violent place lingers in the minds of suburbanites with all the cash.

ReplyDeleteThat's pretty sad considering I saw prom kids at Garrozzo's downtown and Grinders. When Grinders is a better choice over the Plaza it is a sad state of affairs. All because the people that matter won't admit what a problem black people actually are.

We recently had a couple of incidents in our neighborhood in which someone said the perps of one crime were black and another person said they had an incident in which some black youths were in their fenced back yard near their garage one night. Our local white guiltist jumped in and accused the people who reported these incidents of being racist and said there might be any number of reasons someone would be in your fenced yard near your garage at night other than breaking in. And I am not making this up.

We are white folks who qualify for senior discounts -- but we are also aware that black kids are no different from white ones in every meaningful way, so we do not panic when we see some teenagers being ...well, teens. Annoyingly boisterous over-sized puppies -- black, white or brown.
