KANSAS CITY'S LGBT COMMUNITY CONFRONTS INCREASING VIOLENCE AND MURDER AND NOW THEY WANT TO TALK OUT THIS DANGEROUS LEVEL OF HATE!!!
Inspired by an ongoing murder case that divided many local LGBT denizens, here's an important effort to talk about the problem in the coming months. Check it:
KCAVP and LELAC host “REAL TALK: LGBTQ Conversations for Change” town halls to address growing concerns in Kansas City’s LGBTQ communities.
Kansas City AntiViolence Project (KCAVP) and the Law Enforcement and LGBTQ Advocacy Coalition (LELAC) will be hosting “REAL TALK: LGBTQ Conversations for Change,” a series of three town hall discussions on May 11, June 1 and June 29, 2015 from 5:308:30pm. We will address some of the pressing concerns impacting lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) communities in Kansas City beyond business discrimination and marriage equality.
These town hall meetings will be hosted at the Kauffman Foundation Conference Center, 4801 Rockhill Road, Kansas City, Missouri. They are free to attend. The town halls will be comoderated by Lara Brooks (LGBTQ Health & Housing Youth Advocate, Chicago) and Eli Chi (LGBTQ Community Organizer, St. Louis.)
In light of the ongoing investigation of Dionte Greene’s murder on October 31, 2014 with no justice, continued hate violence directed at LGBTQ individuals, law enforcement’s harassment of and misconduct towards marginalized communities, specifically LGBTQ individuals, and the general lack in representation of diversity and inclusion within LGBTQ community events and spaces, we must expand our conversations.We believe that LGBTQ people each have valuable insight about these topics and invite community members to share their experiences and perspectives . . .
