TIME FOR KANSAS CITY TO KILL VISIT KC?!?!

Pending City Hall legislation is set to funnel more money to a great many dweebs affiliated Visit KC so they can continue to plan parties, come up with reasons for more horrible designs and have so many romantic misunderstandings with the new marketing sexies freshly hatched from KU journalism school.

Anyhoo . . . Here's a look at pending legislation that will continue to fund Visit KC for what barely qualifies as work.

You decide . . .

SHOULD KANSAS CITY CONTINUE TO THROW AWAY MONEY ON HORRIBLE VISIT KC MARKETING OR MAYBE SAVE A BUCK BY FARMING THE WORK OUT TO A PRIVATE AD FIRM?!?!?

Yes, we know that Visit KC greases the palms of just about every marketing gig in town but the fact that their cash is non-competitive might be what makes local marketing so mediocre.

Make no mistake . . . Visit KC operates mostly like a legal slush fund for just about every lame idea this town latches onto . . . Still . . .

MORE THAN 8 AND A HALF MILLION BUCKS FOR VISIT KC IS PRINCELY SUM THAT'S KIND OF EMBARRASSING CONSIDERING THE CRAPPY ADVERTS AND MOSTLY STOCK FOOTAGE FOR KANSAS CITY!!!

The fiscal note says Visit KC will eat up $8,676,674 for 2015-2016 alone . . . And then it just gets worse when the new convention hotel hot mess starts up sooner than everybody thinks.

Developing . . .

  1. Probably don't need it what with all those Milanese who will be spending their summer holiday in KC.

After hearing Lil' Cindy's speech they likely made travel plans that same day.

  2. Visit KC, but be sure you get the fuck out before sundown when the shooting starts.

  3. The tax rate on a hotel by the Airport is 16.225% plus the flat tax 1.74 arena fee. We HAVE to offer SOMETHING to the travelers that are paying this tax. Now I'm not saying VisitKC is great, or even good. But we have to have SOMETHING to show for the 7.5% convention and tourism tax.

  4. I mean shit. where is that 7.5% going?!?!?!?!

  6. Since KC's political/business cheerleaders want to emulate "hip" Portland, please recall that they adopted a "no promotion" policy to dissuade more people from relocating there.

Too many people result in a spoiling of the city with congestion, crime, etc. How about KC spend it's money on basic infrastructure for it's own residents.

  7. 10:07 I am the first in line to agree with you. But if someone is being charged 7.5% there should be some sort of return.

Lets breakdown some numbers here. Using broad National averages from https://www.ahla.com/content.aspx?id=36332 we get the following

    Average Daily Rate = $110.35
    Average # of Rooms = 90
    Average Occupancy Rate = 62.2%
Convention and Tourism Tax = 7.5%

    (90*.622)*(110.35)*(365)*(.075)

Based on the numbers provided the "average" hotel would pay $169,106.13/yr . TripAdvisor tracks 109 hotels in KC. We will round that down to 100 to be safe.

So an imprecise estimate is around

    $16,910,613.33

Thats 16 MILLION dollars. In convention and Tourism Taxes. I can't figure out what benefit is derived from these funds that promote Convention and Tourism.

(NOTE: This does not include the other 9+% in taxes paid on hotels. Add about another 2 million in Arena Taxes for Sprint Center. Add another 16 million in sales tax. Thats 34 Million dollars in Hotel Tax revenue.)
