TKC EXCLUSIVE AND BREAKING NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY STILL PAYING FOR 'EXPENSIVE AND EMBARRASSING' GOP CONVENTION BID FAIL AMID BUSTED BUDGET 2015!!!

There's no points for second place and after a FAILED bid for the GOP convention last year, Republicans aren't offering any refunds to Kansas City now that City Hall is facing wage freezes and cutbacks.

To wit . . .

CITY HALL INSIDERS REVEAL MORE BUDGET PUSH BACK AGAINST MAYOR SLY JAMES OVER HIS UNSUCCESSFUL DECISION TO CHASE THE GOP CONVENTION THAT'S NOW CAUSING PAINFUL CUTBACKS FOR EMPLOYEES!!!

The budget will soon be approved but the decision to chase the GOP still stings.

One Insider says:

"The GOP debacle was a classic example of the Mayor's ego ruining a decent opportunity and leaving Kansas City stuck with the bill. Nobody is holding him accountable for the decision but look at the extravagant expenses that KCMO took to accommodate the Republicans and then remember how infighting and Mayor Sly eventually ruined the bid. His dancing with the Republicans didn't help and now all the money KCMO wasted could've been used to avoid some of these cuts. It's embarrassing."

Tragically, many civic cheerleaders count the failed bid as a victory because KCMO came close but ultimately proved typically unsuccessful and unable to secure a victory in the clutch.

  1. TKC, don't forget this is the same way we'll be paying for the streetcar for the next 20 years.

  2. City Employees taking yet another wage freeze while we shovel money and platitudes to rich assholes? Sounds like typical City of KC politics.

  9. Keep looking at everything but the fact that 75% of the city budget is sucked up by the police and racist fire dept.

  10. all the money that the city has thrown away could have help pay for the upgrade on the water and sewer lines instead of raising the rates on our senior citizens

  11. "racist fire dept"????

Because they hire the BEST person for the job rather than on skin color?

  12. ah, another article lacking any basis in reality when one uses actual facts.

the city went on the record on the expense amount

$260K split between KCMO, KCK, Johnson County, and Jackson County spent on RNC campaign. Also via private funds

KCMO has a $1.4 billion budget.

to put that number in perspective, the cist spends $2 million just on tree trimming.

the amount spent on the RNC attempt is TINY.

    1. Oh, good point. Its okay for the city to throwaway the cost of a very nice house because the city has a big budget. I don't see any reason why the city can't round up to the nearest million. $1000 is like a penny to the city. Taxpayers, who fund this black hole of money, don't need to be concerned when some paltry $200000 disappears.

  13. for the water cost item from 9:07

the water department is ONLY funded via their bills.

we know from the streetcar that water main replacements can cost $5-10 million per mile and there's easily 2500 miles of pipe to replace across the city over the next few decades. that's $12 billion just for water mains.

because there would need to be new income to find a 30-50% increase in the budget we're talking about a MAJOR new tax to go before voters. imagine the 1% tax being doubled and that's the scale that's needed. the only items in the budget big enough to find that much if cut is infrastructure and public safety.

so what do you want, water mains but no road work for 20 years, horrible police or fire response, a major new property tax or a 5% sales tax increase?

the water services bills will not be going down no matter how it's paid for

  14. So Sly ruined the bid by dancing...it had nothing to do with transportation and hotel infrastructure...LOLOLOLOL!!!!

  15. Why would the GOP choose to spend money in a city defined by failed liberal and affirmative action politics? A city whose school system is run the same way and gets de-certified by the state on a frequent basis?

Answer- they won't. The fact that KC thought they ever ad a shot at this is a textbook study in Dunning–Kruger effect. For you Cleaver voters, that is "a cognitive bias wherein unskilled individuals suffer from illusory superiority, mistakenly assessing their ability to be much higher than is accurate. This bias is attributed to a metacognitive inability of the unskilled to recognize their ineptitude."

    Welcome to reality, folks.

  21. Build a police station there. That will solve everything. There's a profit to be made when I target my Black brethren. Hallelujah and Amen.

On tonight Lord, Jesus we ask that Your divine intervention make these jobless, faceless and meaningless Black people fall prey to my development schemes, dear Lord. In the Name OF Jesus. Amen and Amen. We know YOU can do it dear, Heavenly Father on the most high, God.

Make a way, Lord God. Make a way. Open the flood gates of public funding, Lord God. Where my work is already done for me or not all, God. Public tit is much more sustainable than the religious tit, Lord God. Teach me. Your way. For Thine is the glory, Lord God. Your will be done. Amen.

  22. Let's hope the E-Tax takes care of this.
E-Tax collections are up due to new software and additional staff going after non payers - meaning KCMO residents who didn't pay their e-tax in the last five years. They are offering 1% interest rate per month up to 36% and a 25% penalty added on to the unpaid tax.
No grace period. Pay up bitches. That's how we treat our Citizens.

  23. Number or residents in KCMO: 465,000. Budget: $1.4 billion
    NFL, MLB teams.

Denver: 625,000 residents. Budget: 1.06 Billion.
Denver: NFL, NBA, ML teams, train... downtown...etc.

So why is Denver's budget 35% lower than KCMO's and they have about 30% more residents.

    Go figure.

  26. I'll tell you this you sons of bitches, the Mayor chased away the RNC. They got one look at that dancing buffon and realized KC was nowhere close to being a real city.

  28. to 12:46pm yesterday

the 2015 Denver budget is $1.72 with 650,000 residents. You're comparing Denver in 2011 to KC in 2015.

    https://www.denvergov.org/Portals/344/documents/Budget/2015/Proposed_Budget.pdf

see page 19 for their budget

that's $30,000 per resident in KC.
    $27,000 per resident in Denver

So in terms of population Denver spends 90% as much. But because both cities host land for businesses that need services too, it's more fair to use the budget compared to the physical size of the city. Denver is smaller and denser.

KC has 319 square miles. So that's $4.39 million per square mile.
Denver has 155 square miles. So that's $11.35 per square mile.

By that ranking our budget is way too small. We should have a budget many billions more. We know there's a huge number of roads to repair and the too small budget is a big reason why.
