KCUR's report this morning: Citizens Speak Out Against Cuts At Kansas City Budget Hearing
Money line:
"Several residents used the budget hearing to criticize Mayor Sly James and the City Council. One attendee even called James a "dictator" and claimed that he doesn't care about the urban core."
The response from the Mayor seemed weak and obviously a lame attempt at deflection:
"James responded that he understands the city has ongoing issues with violence and poverty, but said that they are doing the best they can. "There's not an urban center in this country where black people and brown people aren't undereducated and underemployed," James said. "But this is the first [Kansas City mayoral] administration that has an education advisor, and this is the first administration that goes and reads to and tutors kids, most of them black and brown."

You see, you don’t get yourself a brother as your front man if you piss off all the brothers and sisters and then you can’t call your critics racists. You see the local Power Elite is made up of Kemper banks, J. E. Dunn Construction, Burns and McDonnell, Black and Veatch, HTNB and the other assorted construction and engineering contractors and law firms as well as the Kemper banks and Uncle Sly’s job was to bring home the bacon to his masters. His first mistake was not appointing a brother as his key advisor. He did not have an Eric Holder as his enforcer. If he had such a man, he would have kept the urban core happy. Uncle Sly says he understands the urban core. Has Uncle Sly ever been in the urban core? Uncle Sly is a graduate of a Catholic parochial school, Bishop Hogan. Has Uncle Sly been down with the homies a long time. At Rockhurst University not Howard or Moorehouse, his fraternity was TKE, not a traditional black fraternity. When Uncle Sly was in the Marine Corp, he was a military policeman. I wonder if he racially profiled anyone. Yeah Uncle Sly, you crawled your way out of the ghetto and you know the urban core. I think the local Power Elite are going to throw him under the bus and it won’t be the one Sister Rosa Parks got arrest on.
ReplyDeleteThe idea that every Black person living in the urban core is poverty stricken is absolutely irresponsible and a fallacy. Some people live in the urban core because they choose to; not because they have to. People in positions of authority should cease separating people by class and focus on the real issues. East Kansas City is not under-invested because its population is uneducated - though some are; but rather because there is a political system of racial bias that prevents public dollars from providing for basic services in areas concentrated with minority populations. When's the last time anyone has walked down a City block on the Eastside and the sidewalks weren't busted?
ReplyDeleteMayor Sly James has declared war on the poor, elderly and People Of Color in Jackson County, Missouri. Kansas City Mayor Sly James is linked to torture of prison in the city jails. He does not allow prisoner to see prisoner's on their list. He takes away medications like high blood pressure medicine and charges prisoner's for medication. Kansas City Mayor Sly James allows caseworkers on payroll to not return calls from prisoners nor do caseworkers as much walk through the jails. Prisoners under custody of Mayor Sly James use blankets to keep warm because the cells blocks are on the outer walls of the jails. Kansas City Mayor does not allow access to Public Defenders and encourages prisoners to plead guilty. Kansas City Mayor Sly James provides deplorable food rations to prisoners. Mayor Sly James is an active participant in Torture and should be brought up on charges under the Geneva Convention.
ReplyDeleteThe City Manager Troy Schulte is the problem. His idea of a budget is to lay off 50 maintenance workers so he can hire 50 3-1-1 call takers so folks can complain about the shitty infrastructure. That POS has NO FUCKING CLUE and how he got to be City Manager is a mystery.

"When's the last time anyone has walked down a City block on the Eastside and the sidewalks weren't busted?" Isn't sidewalk maintenance the responsibility of the adjoining property owner?
ReplyDeleteIt may be in some neighborhoods but when City installs trees and other plants along the right of way and causes the walkways to move and shift - city is responsible. Eastside doesn't get PIAC dollars because our regressive leadership thinks a toy train which won't ever lay track should be funded by Eastsiders.
