Tonight our blog community takes a PAUSE and contemplates the political career of a Kansas City "reformer" who was was forced to exit the current city council race and then disqualified by a judge.
Back when TGR first ran for office she was part of a Kansas City Latino political renaissance which hoped to return the Hispanic community back to elected office after population trends, subtle discrimination and years of horrible Chicano incumbents had conspired to keep the largest and fastest growing community without representation.

Real life . . . Nobody in this photo is "friends" any longer . . . Mike Talboy is a former State Rep. who shaved his goatee, got a much better haircut and now is in charge of the political money spigot at Burns & Mac, TGR might be somewhere in Blue Springs and Chris Moreno took a job in the private sector after a controversial but unsuccessful campaign with his friend Will Royster.
And so, we asked our blog community about the prospect of TGR in the future . . .

What's important here is that TGR promised that she was a "reformer" and that she would clean up local government. Many of those same promises are being made during this election season.
Tonight we should probably think about recent local history to see how the best intentions of politicos so often turn out for the worse.

ReplyDeleteOut of a population of 464,000 residents in KCMO, there are only about 150 D-list celebrities in the "political class" who run over and over again, get cushy jobs with nonprofits they've funded, appointed to government jobs, or even get hired, usually briefly, by actual companies.
Look at the current crop of candidates!
Normally, i would agree with 8:33 but look at how many people have abandoned her and have sworn to work against her in the future. I hate to say it but she united black people against her more than any other person has in the past decade.
