Kansas City Could Soon Lose Uber

Ride-sharing regulation moves by City Hall could force a transit tech giant to abandon Kansas City . . . Which kinda speaks to the reality of all the recent "silicon prairie" hype even if probably might be for the best considering the many dangers of letting Internets strangers do the driving. 1. Uber works like a champ. It would be a loss to those folks who need to save a few bucks to let it go. Or, in actuality, have it forced out by special interests.

  3. Sadly, there aren't enough Uber drivers on the streets of Kansas City to make a stink about this. In New York, there are now more Ubers than cabs and it's going that way in other cities where taxis have traditionally served more than the poor.

The sad truth is that most of the local cab drivers could increase their incomes substantially if they started driving their own cars but the market here is so small that they fear the risks of competing with the likes of Bill George and his ilk.

Sitting in an Uber in NYC a few months back, I listened as my driver told me that the owner of his car had sold his one taxi medallion and turned the money into 10 cars and a small maintenance facility in Long Island. Bill is just fearful of someone doing the same thing here.

  4. KC has little to nothing to offer, no sense in modernizing now.

  5. Uber is in trouble everywhere all over the planet and no spin and hype is going to fix their legal problems, or their cocky attitude toward life in general.

    1. Sorry but the facts don't support your statement. They have matured into the investment phase of business. Now market metrics drive ubers survival. They exhibit market metrics like growth at rates that surpass other sector companies such as Twitter pinterest and are on par with Facebook. No one is arguing they are about to go under. Furthermore you are setting talks of asset acquisition and synergy whereby Uber could be the largest customer of automobile maker Mercedes Benz reshaping not only the livery service business but the automobile rental space. From reading msm headlines I can see why you made this comment. But facts and big money contradict your statement.

  6. Amazing how these "local business owners" champion the free market until someone with a better product comes along. Then, they run to the government demanding regulations be added. No sooner does the competition leave that they demand "less government red tape!" for themselves.

  7. Uber has completely taken over places such as Chicago and has bankrupted many taxi companies. Good for Uber - a better service at a lower price. Capitalism at its greatest!
