Kansas City Community Media: Camp

We talk a lot about the newspaper industry in Kansas City and it's important to note the bright spots and celebrate victories for local publishers.

While the big metro dailies might not have a future, community news is another story and weekly, bi-weekly and monthly newsprint remains an important part of keeping any community informed.

So tonight, check this really great profile on Camp KC - Kansas City's LGBT Paper Of Record

The iconic covers of Camp are always a lot of fun and this industry newsletter circulated throughout the LGBT community nationwide offers great info on the process of putting the publication together.

A note about the name from publisher John Long: "We came up with the name for two reasons. The primary definition is because we serve the LGBTQ and allied communities so in that sense we are all in the same camp of “similar ideals” as well as the more theatrical use of the word “campy.” We use the dictionary definition of the word as such: Camp (1) (kamp) n. a group of people with the same ideals. Camp (2) adj. exaggerated in style, especially for humorous effect."

From the KC Call to The Northeast News . . . There are some great newsprint publications in Kansas City that cover their community better than anybody else and offer a viable alternative to mainstream media.

The crystal casket will be spun off soon TKC. That is the prediction you need to make. Why should a profitable printing business be saddled with a shitty leftist editorial rag?
