AFTERMATH: KANSAS CITY YELLOW CAB KILLED UBER THIS WEEKEND!!!

The ride-share Internets dudes put on a good show this week at City Hall but now it's important to take a realistic look at how this fight is playing out on local streets.

Using a just a bit of tech, we were sent this juxtaposition:

And a simple inquiry . . .

"Simple question for you TKC . . . Concert just let out, WHO WOULD YOU USE?"

So, as the fight for cab control of Kansas City streets continues . . . The reality is that the Internets tells us Uber stays losing for a lot of reasons that we'll examine soon enough.

  1. Want to do business in KC, purchase a business license. It is that simple and for them to wine that they are exempt is ridiculous.

  2. Yep. It's extortion but as long as you continue to elect these pieces of shit to rule over you, they will continue to grant privilege for a fee.

  3. I would use the driverless bicycles if they were available.

  4. 7:27 and for Sly James to make the correlation that fees correlate to safer livery services is equally ridiculous.

"James said the fees were to ensure drivers are as safe as possible."

  5. Bill George and Sly James entire argument rests on the fact that the original regulations, the regulations from before Uber, the regulations designed by Bill George were good and necessary in the first place.

    Hmmmmm.......

  6. So if my car is in the shop and I call my buddy to drive me to work for 20 bucks we are committing a crime? Mayor James supports throwing me and my friend in jail or fining me or my friend? Thanks alot Sly

  7. You realize that what these pictures say is that people are riding in Ubers and not Taxi's, right? That's why all the Ubers are taken and the Taxis are empty.

  8. I feel safer in a cab then with some weirdo driving for Uber.

  9. 448 - obviously you have never tried Uber. The drivers I have encountered in SF, CHI, NYC and KC have all been excellent. They never pull trying to keep the fare off the books and I've never had a billing problem. KCMO needs to get out of the stone age and get away from the patronage politics of this city.

  10. I hear Uber is only employing rapists now as it takes all the guesswork out for the passengers.

Check your Garmins and study up on FARCE-Y ...PER-SHAM...this town had few AmEng speakers in limos too!! Beena few yrs ago -- put me off taxis but good!!

  12. It's all or nothing, folks. If we're trying to attract millenials with a 2.2 mile streetcar line then it'd be nice if we could provide the free market ride share component that makes up for the gaps in our transit network.

I opposed the streetcar because I (correctly) predicted numerous obstacles that weren't being properly explained to the public, and also the fact that the ROI numbers were hyper-inflated, which is a tell-tale sign that even the promoters weren't entirely confident in their estimates.

The point is that this mayor has no problem relaxing regulations on the city's ability to get approval for creating tax districts in order to advance his agenda in an attempt to compete with Seattle, Portland, Denver and Austin, but when it comes to the free market's role, he thinks there needs to be more restrictive regulations.

I hope the new council can collect seven votes to put an end to this.

  13. There are no UBERs because during the Big 12 tourney KCPD undercover would order them and write them a ticket for not having a business license. UBER agreed to this concession for KC but didn't bother to inform their drivers.
