Kansas City Toy Train To Nowhere: Streetcar Dominates Budget While 'Cultural Icons' Cut

Here's a look at even more damage from the budget delivered by Mayor Sly and the City Manager: "The Kansas City Zoo, Kansas City Museum and Liberty Memorial are on the list of cuts. However, one of the biggest losses will be at the American Jazz Museum. They could lose more than $125,000, nearly a quarter of what they normally get from the city." And so the plan seems to be . . . That KCMO is putting all of its money in a toy train and sacrificing all of the big ticket destinations that this town formerly funded. So far, the scheme doesn't seem to be working: American Jazz Museum among Kansas City icons that may face major budget cuts

  4. Was there any major tax cuts offer in the preliminary 2015-2016 fiscal budget? If they have enough money to waste on a streetcar, they have enough to get along without the earnings tax.

  5. Instead of cutting the city managers and mayors staff, they are increasing it, AGAIN. Lots of cuts to be made there.

  6. The Jazz Museum draws travelers by the bus-load. It is one of the things that is unique to KC and distinguishes the "City" from the strip-mall wastelands that surround it. Bad idea to starve it down.

  7. The only tax cuts in KC are to the TIFs given to developers and lawyers. The rest of us have to make up the difference.

  9. Laying off more city workers means all our services will suffer. Troy's budget sucks unless you're a member of the firefighters union. The budget is bad for kansas city.
