In the aftermath of a tragic teen killing the ensuing court proceedings there's a somewhat shocking assumption that puts the blame on tech.

SHOULD FACEBOOK TAKE THE BLAME FOR AN URBAN CORE TEEN MURDER AT THE HANDS OF OTHER YOUNG ADULTS?!?!?!
Here's the shameful assertion:
“If there was no Facebook, and I literally pointed to my eighth graders and said, ‘Alexis Kane would be sitting right there, right now,’ and that’s when it hit them,” Dr. Hayet Woods told her students during an assembly at Smith-Hale Middle School, where Alexis Kane was a student.

Here's a more important teaching moment . . .
After most horrific tragedies in Kansas City there's always a rush to blame someone or something that doesn't really have a stake in the matter at hand. Last time we checked, neither Facebook nor any of their employees killed kids in Kansas City's urban core. Meanwhile, the beginning of the year has seen one kid and/or baby shot after the next. This bit of local blame seems reminiscent of the time that City Hall blamed a deadly infrastructure FAIL explosion on an old and busted fax machine.
Either way, the real lesson for tonight is that accountability and/or responsibility isn't something that "scholars" are learning at Kansas City Public Schools and this tragic fact could be contributing to the ongoing cycle of local violence.

Remember the 15 year old girl that was abducted and murder while waiting for her school bus. She was not shot, or the girl at the pool or the young lady abducted from the mall parking lot.
