Kansas City 3rd District At-Large Candidate Rev. Stephan Gordon Considers Ferguson

TKC NOTE: Here's a note sent our way from a hopeful campaigner vying for a spot on the City Council. Take a look:

Ferguson, MO

We need to go back and look at the way some of these old laws are written and make necessary adjustments. For example, in this case, there are laws on the books that allow police officers to shoot fleeing suspects even when there is no eminent danger. Currently, Rep. Brandon Ellington and the legislative black caucus is attempting to address that.

As far as the citizens are concerned, we have not made the connection that voting has an impact on every aspect of our life. That is why our forefathers died for the right to vote. When I first learned of the incident in Ferguson, I looked up the city's population makeup and immediately it told me that the people in Ferguson are not voting. For example, you have a city that is 65% black and a police department that is at least 90% white. More diversity is definitely needed on the Ferguson police department and the city's administration. All of the city leaders and the people in the position to make changes are white. If the people in Ferguson are voting, this would not be so or at least there would exist an avenue for change.

Community leaders need to do a better job explaining to citizens what the vote means and how to effectively use their vote. That is true even here in Kansas City. We have a low voter turnout year after year in midterm elections. Leaders must help the people understand that this low voter turnout paved the way for the US Congress to shut down the government when things don't go their way. And we all lose because nothing gets done for the citizens.

So you can see that there is a lot of work to get done by all of us and there is enough blame to go around.

  3. So we've got a virtually illiterate elected official in KC?

Seriously, how do you live to be as old as him without knowing the difference between THERE and THEIR?

    Just mind-boggling stuff.

  5. and you illiterate fuck, you want to be elected based on what is that? ebonics? what's so scary about this whole picture is he just may get his uneducated self elected under the pretense that Kansas City deserves this kind of leadership. Big business is absolutely looking at this man and squirming in their chairs gleefully that they have nothing to worry about with pulling the wool over this morons eyes and obtaining those great tax breaks that companies like Burns & Mc are so proud of

  10. Who in their right fucking mind listens to ANYTHING coming from the mouth of a Negro Reverend about ANYTHING.

Only a fucking idiot would give this boon the time of day.

If you are black and a reverend........

  11. I just realized that all those Black Revs are Affirmative Action hires.

    I never knew that.

  12. Ok, check this excerpt from the Rev's commentary.

"For example is this case there is a law on the books that allow police officer to shot a feeling super even when there is no emenate dangers...."

There are millions of blacks running around with college degrees in "Afrikan" studies who are running our cities, states and the Federal Government.

Our country has turned into a sick, pathetic joke.

  13. The ONLY CONDITIONS that led to Mike Brown's death....the CONDITIONS which have been overlooked and lost by all the protestors, out-of-town grifters, and media....are:

    1) DON'T STEAL
    2) DON'T ASSAULT Business Owners
    3) DON'T Walk in the Street
    4) DON'T Verbally Disrespect Police Officers
    5) DON'T ASSAULT Police
    6) DON'T RUN toward an officer in a threatening manner when he's holding you at gunpoint.

WHAT do people NOT UNDERSTAND about these basic points?
Mike Brown is dead, unfortunately, because Mike Brown voluntarily chose to disregard the law. Mike Brown, and no one else, is ultimately responsible.
