CELEBRATE ANOTHER JACKSON COUNTY TRANSIT VAPORWARE PRESSER AND THE SILLY EXEC MIKE SANDERS TOY TRAIN!!!

Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders must be feeling a bit left out in the aftermath of Kansas City Royals World Series coverage because he's touting yet another meaningless local rail "transit" achievement.

To wit . . .

CELEBRATE THE PROGRESS OF EXEC MIKE SANDERS AND HIS TOY TRAIN THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN BECAUSE THE GUY IS GUNNING FOR A NEW JOB IN 18 MONTHS!!!

Exec Sanders is calling it a "game changer" in the sponsored contact rag that's run by the lady on the take to all of the half of the downtown politicos but still hasn't managed to scare up a single website comment.

Here's much better reporting:

KC Biz Journal: Jackson County receives $10M grant for commuter-rail plan

Deets:

"With the receipt of a $10 million federal grant Jackson County is closer to acquiring more than 20 miles of right-of-way that would be used for its commuter-rail plan.

"On Monday, Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders announced the county received a $10 million federal grant to go toward the purchase of the about 24 miles of rail running from just northwest of the intersection of Interstate 70 and Interstate 435 in Kansas City southeast through Raytown and Lee's Summit and a pair of rail spurs running through Independence."

This is all well and good if it weren't for the fact that $10 Million won't buy much of ANYTHING when it comes to modern-day rail transit . . . Not even a hobo box car, which would probably be the only viable Eastern Jack rail transit option anyhoo . . .

What's worse . . .

JACKSON COUNTY HONCHO MIKE SANDERS ALREADY HAS ONE FOOT OUT THE DOOR SO ALL OF HIS TRANSIT HYPE IS CLEARLY NOTHING BUT BAD PR THAT HAS BEEN UNCHALLENGED BY THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA!!!

Again, I'll repeat my Jackson County VAPORWARE transit offer . . . As County Exec, if Mike Sanders manages to put one piece of rail transit into action before he leaves office then TKC will gladly shut down publishing for a month and switch to a music blog during that time or something. I'll have to get a personal call from Mike Sanders though, claiming the prize, so that we can exchange gossip about Legislator Crystal Williams and her haircut as well.

Developing . . .

  4. But if you take I-470 westbound from Lee's Summit in the morning 95% of the traffic continues on I-435 into Johnson County.
Who's going to ride the train to downtown KCMO?

  6. If there is a solid bus network that will deliver commuters to and from their destiation and the train in close to the same time it takes to drive there, this *might* have merit. I'm not even close to sold on this yet, though.

    1. Shouldn't you be working on the magic mystery free buses to everywhere at any time from anywhere that you publicly and repeatedly promised voters in return for voting against the first real transit investment in the east side in a century...

  8. There was no investment, only a promise to take away more money from neighborhood improvements.
