TKC READER FACT CHECK!!! WORST WORLD SERIES EVER: TV RATINGS REVEAL THE NATION IGNORES KANSAS CITY ROYALS!!!

Our AWESOME TKC BLOG COMMUNITY scours the Internets for the very best links that provide an alternative perspective on life and media in Kansas City.

To wit . . .

CHECK THIS BIT OF EVIDENCE REVEALING THAT THE REST OF THE NATION DOESN'T CARE ABOUT THE KANSAS CITY ROYALS RETURNING TO THE WORLD SERIES!!! WORSE STILL. . . AMERICA IS TUNING OUT KANSAS CITY!!!

A rather KICK-ASS TKC READER tells us:

"I was curious if the rest of the country cared about "America's team" as much as the radio sports jocks were touting... and sure enough it was mostly a big ruse."

Evidence: World Series strikes out with lowest Game 1 ratings in history

Deets:

"Game one was the 5th lowest rated World Series of all time . . . Rated a 3.4 among viewers aged 18 to 49, down 15% from last year's Series, a match-up of the Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals."

And what's unfortunate about this is that our blog community is the only place where these kind of stats can be examined given that every other media outlet in town is doing nothing more than broadcasting hype while we examine the tragic facts.

  1. That's kind of a bummer. But remember that sports viewership is down over all.

  2. Whaddya mean the rest of the country? Baseball is as boring as watching grass grow. At least half of the population of the Killer City crime zone (aka the KC metro) could not care less about the world series, the royals or baseball in general. People are making money off it? Great. But who fucking cares?

  3. It was the same way in 1985. Big audiences on the coasts could care less about KC & St. Louis. Also, TV numbers are lower overall today than then. Doesn't bother me if they don't like KC enough to watch. Their loss, not mine.

  4. How will the local TV "news" shows fill their air time when the World Series is over? I keep thinking they can't get more moronic and they keep proving me wrong.

The 12.1 million viewers meant Fox still beat most other programming on Tuesday, and the network actually won the night in 18-49 demo.

TKC FACT TWIST!!! THE HIGHEST RATED SHOW FOR MONDAY NIGHT IS SOMEHOW AN EPIC FAIL!!! BECAUSE I HATE EVERYTHING AFTER ALL!!!

  6. "AMERICA IS TUNING OUT KANSAS CITY!!!"

Tony your thought processes defy any hint of intelligent life. If the world is turning off KC what the hell are the 27 million residents of California doing to the Giants?

It has been no secret that for decades the world of broadcasting has rotated around New York City as if nothing else matters. Given that the densest population in america is in the NY, NJ, PA, DC corridor the fact alone that no Eastern U.S. teams are in the series is enough to tilt ratings. We also have more cable stations than ever. As we have learned with presidential speeches the masses switch them off in favour of Nickolodean, even in times of crisis. I can guarantee that when the Yankees go to the world series there will be record numbers tuning into the A World Series once again.

  7. Damn, your turgid testicles of zeal towards anything negative, even about the most positive thing that has happened to KC in years, is relentless. Other than affirmation from trolls and haters, you get?

  8. I knew Tony would have to dig deep to find a way to feel better about our KICK ASS performance last night. Most of the rest of us are having a great time wuth something unexpected and fun. Let's get a team of psychiatrists and bartenders in deck in case we win. Not sure Tony's bitter little heart can handle it!

  9. Baseball is packaged as a regional viewership play for the television providers. Believe it or not at 162 games baseball is a huge benefit, not a drain, to the providers that land the baseball contracts. For that matter, live programming in general is prime real estate for providers. This is a topic better suited for KC Confidential than TKC.

  10. Comparing current ratings to past ratings is meaningless since TV viewership is dramatically down altogether. You have to look at how it rated compared to what else was on at the same time, and that comes up a winner.

  11. Walmart is worldwide.

  12. Now these kind of TKC headlines are what I know and love!

  13. Sports people are just a booster sub-industry for major league sports.

It's all hype. Phony excitement, softball interviews. PR people who work at broadcast outlets.

  14. Bread and circuses. It's as old as Rome.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Hey, where's the post about the Giants disgrace from last nights whooping? Don't you want to tell the Giants its harder than it looks or that Royals are for real and they are Americas Team? Come on. Pay up.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I didn't watch. The only thing I care less about than the Royals is the Chiefs.

    ReplyDelete
  17. With your attitude, its no wonder women wont talk to you, Tony.

Gay men either, for that matter.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I don't like how you can't really watch the world series on the Internet without an expensive subscription. There's your real controversy.

  19. 2:33 - gay men can't talk to Tony cause they got his 3" stub in their mouth....

  20. Baseball viewership has been going down for a long time across the country. During the playoffs all baseball games were blown out of the water ratings-wise when they went up against the NFL, college football, and even NASCAR. Baseball has become very regional. I'm a huge sports fan but if the Royals weren't in the WS I wouldn't be watching. Look for tonight's Broncos-Chargers game ratings. They will kill baseball's. And it's not because it is the Royals, it's because baseball has been declining for a long time.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Another meaningless game, Tony? How about Tony moves to San Francisco? He'll be happy there. Very, very happy. We'll be happy he's gone. Very, very happy. A classic win-win situation.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Speak for yourself, Yael.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'm not watching the World Series this year.
Giants are from Gay SFBay and Kansas City is in Canada!
