We don't normally blog fires but this Kansas City historic site suffering serious damage is worth a mention: Visible smoke and reports of fire at Hotel Savoy in downtown Kansas City

I love the Savoy. But whoever is managing the restaurant is doing a very poor job. Last time I went, the dining room was filthy and dusty - it made one think that the kitchen was just as dirty. Waiters don't like the side work, apparently.
ReplyDeleteDidn't this place get a TIF and some other subsidy because they said that they were going to fix it up;
ReplyDeleteThey did get a TIF awarded to them, but are still in planning stages.
ReplyDeleteNow we're cooking! Great way to clear out the trash, grease and general filth.
ReplyDeleteHey, maybe Crown Center Weston kitchens could get rid of the rats and roaches with a smoke out!!!!
They should remodel and reopen as a Subway.
ReplyDeleteOP Fire only needed one pumper and four men to handle this little waste basket fire.
ReplyDeleteRE: KSHB41 KANSAS CITY, Mo. - "There was visible smoke..."
ReplyDeleteas opposed to invisible smoke???
Jadiann!!
Great place to open a "Firehouse Subs" shop!!
ReplyDeleteIt kinda sucked. Every newsie in town with a Twitter account was going apeshit on Twitter about it. They had nothing to report except that there was "visible smoke".
ReplyDeleteIt was nuts.
So the fire happened in the kitchen under the hood, no doubt encrusted with a century's worth of grease. Since that place is so filthy, it's a wonder the historic murals, coated with a thick layer of filth, didn't catch fire themselves. Maybe it burned all the dust and dirt hanging from air vents. Maybe it is an excuse to get the place finally cleaned using insurance money instead of good old fashioned elbow grease. Note to owner: your restaurant is too dirty to eat in, for sure now,
