Here's a bit of math that supporters of a new KCI don't want voters to know . . .
A new airport is gonna coast the airlines more . . . And they're not gonna eat the costs . . . Instead . . .
KANSAS CITY INSIDERS WARN THAT SOUTHWEST IS ALREADY CONSIDERING REDUCING KANSAS CITY FLIGHTS IN ORDER TO SAVE CASH FOR A NEW AIRPORT PRICE SPIKE!!!
This myth should combat the whole Kansas City "free money" mentality that wants to convince voters that passing on the cost of a new airport has no consequences. In the end, everything that impacts the airlines will impact consumers and ultimately taxpayers. Sorry, even in the friendly skies, there are no free lunches.
Accordingly, Southwest scaling back their Kansas City presence is a real threat to locals that neither Mayor Sly nor airport dude Mark VanLoh is willing to share but still looms over this town nonetheless . . .
KCI not only is just a glorified bus terminal, the people in charge actually are trying to turn it into a bus terminal by driving out the airlines that use it.

Its just a waste of money. Lets build a high speed train network to clear out the crowded skies. Like all other smart countries are doing.

ReplyDeleteI do pay more than most of the whinners on this site in airline ticket fees, which are the predominate source of dollars for the proposed expansion.
Hard as it is for the grippers to understand, the real "users" are not the taxpayers of KC.
Sorry, but I am guessing (and I am pulling this out of my ass) that most KC residents use the airport maybe 2 times a year?
So, just to be radical, isn't the issue to insulate the KC taxpayer against any debt for the expansion?
Logical, I know, instead to emotional anger.
BTW, Tony's "insider" is the name of the orifice from where he pulled this rumor out of, i.e., his ass.
One can only stand back and cringe at how the non movers and shakers of Kansas City want to make a total fuck of our airport that does work as it is. Go fly in and out of Atlanta or Chicago then tell me our airport needs to be fixed. It's an airport people not an amusement park or country club.

The key word here is "could." Anything COULD happen. Which includes anything an "insider" COULD dream up.

And for a lot of us that doesn't fly anymore.
