Kansas City learns more about yesterday's tripe homicide in the Southland . . .
According to family members, the murder victims are Susan Choucroun, 69, Lorene Hurst, 88, and her son Darrel Hurst, 68. The Hurst family released the following statement late Wednesday morning:
“We are devastated by the loss of Lorene Hurst and her son, Darrel Hurst. Darrel was over visiting his mother, Lorene yesterday when they were both killed. He frequently stopped by her home, so this wasn’t an unusual event. While we are unsure of all of the events that transpired that day, but we are comforted knowing that they were together. Our prayers go out to the other families and victims in the neighborhood as they are struggling to deal with their grief as well. Our hearts are broken and we ask for our privacy during this difficult time.”

What a load of grandstanding and politicking. It sounded like an awards banquet for the police, who, as it turned out, had to depend on a citizen's tip to find and arrest the guy. That's the first thing the Mayor should have said - to comment that citizen cooperation instead of "don't snitch" is the right thing to do. What a great opportunity to send a message. But, no, that would have been seen as criticising his endangered voting base. It was all politics and self-aggrandizement. Sickening for the Prosecutor to crow about an "incredible reduction in crime" at a press conference announcing charges in a multiple murder case. I'm sure that made the families feel better, to know that Prosecutor Baker is stepping on their loved ones dead bodies in order to pat the police on the back in front of the cameras. Crime rates have nothing to do with this case - and it was sleazy and gratuitous for these "officials" to mention them and celebrate how wonderful a job they're all doing. The police captured the guy - good for them, they did their jobs and everyone appreciates it - but without the citizen tip, he might still be out there. The citizen is the real hero here, not the Mayor, the Prosecutor, or the Black Cop who had nothing to do with it.
