ReplyDeletePlaza needs to change with the times. With the closing of Hall's it is time to usher in a new era on the Plaza. Time has come for Highwoods to lease space to the following: Dollar Stores, Barber Shops, Soul Food restaurants, Pawn Shops, and Harold Penner's Clothing. This should fit the "new" demographic on the Plaza. If any of these new ventures fail, just board up the shop if a new tenant can not be found. Do not worry about Payday Loans and Labor Ready because the "new Plaza shopper" does not work and will not have a paycheck coming for a loan. As long as the KCMO police and Highwoods allow this to go on this is what the Plaza should and will become. As many have said Plaza=Bannister Mall.
ReplyDeleteEver been to Oak Park Mall? every other store is peddling either sneakers or jeans. No shit. This is what a successful "upscale" shopping space in an affluent neighborhood is, at least around here.

I buy stuff there all the time, too. Tacos from Chipotle or magazines from Barnes & Noble. Other than that, everything they sell is available somewhere else for less money.
The mall thing is over. There are still a few supposedly doing OK, but you could say that about newspapers, too. Like the surviving newspapers, they are mere shadows of their former selves.
Ten years from now, they'll all be gone.
