TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY PORT IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT AROUND BERKLEY RIVERFRONT PARK PREPARES FOR FLOOD OF CITY HALL TAXPAYER CASH!!!
Kansas City Council lady Jan Marcason is doubling down on a big development deal down by the river . . .
To wit . . .
LOOKS LIKE IT'S ECO-DEVO TIME IN AN OTHERWISE ABANDONED RIVERSIDE PARK AS CITY HALL PREPARES A PRICY PORT IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT!!!
Sure, there has been a building and condo boom in the river market as of late and now City Hall is ready to ramp up development or at least provide a bit more incentive for some underutilized property that might appeal to real estate river rats . . .
Check the legislation . . . Sponsored by Council Lady Jan . . .
We've highlighted the most important parts of this upcoming legislation that will probably pass with little trouble but represent SOME BIG KANSAS CITY BUCKS at stake for yet another
shady shaky project.
140538 "Authorizing the City Attorney to execute and file such pleadings and documents as may be required to establish a port improvement district to assess a 1% sales and use tax and a property tax upon the Berkley Riverfront property, for the purposes of generating revenue to pay the costs of infrastructure required to facilitate the development of the Berkley Riverfront property."
140539 "Authorizing the Director of City Development to execute and deliver a Cooperative Agreement with the Port Authority of Kansas City, Missouri, for the purposes of providing for the future amendment of the Riverfront lease to extend its term and allocate certain lease revenues towards the payment of costs associated with the single-point urban interchange and other infrastructure and supportive facilities to be constructed; authorizing the City Manager to execute the contemplated amendment to the Riverfront lease without further City Council approval; and authorizing the City Attorney to execute and file such documents as may be required to establish a port improvement district."
These City-backed deals usually turn sour quickly . . . Nevertheless, we commend Council Lady Jan for leaving Brookside if only for a moment . . .
