This morning it's important to look at the state of affairs in Midtown Kansas City and more than a few locals who are complaining about an uptick in local crime.
To wit . . .

We've noted some of these instances in the past but it seems that crime is ramping up throughout Midtown as of late.
Moreover . . . This bit of Kansas City testimony is interesting because it shows the GROUND LEVEL IMPACT OF "HOTSPOT POLICING" from a perspective of an area that isn't benefiting from increased police attention.
We've edited out a few personal and private details from this missive but Midtown Kansas City denizens can check our work and cross-reference this post with a lot of the talk going back and forth via social media.

Women Against Crime March on 39th Street
At least over a year ago Chief Forte decided to take our Pro-Active on duty cops away from Central Patrol which included West Plaza, Volker, Valentine and Roanoke. I have been a member of the social media watch groups for some time. I cross post on Hyde Park, Midtown, West Plaza and Volker pages so everyone is aware of crime and descriptions of the perpetrators so we may be able to help police make arrests. But since Chief Forte took our roving cops who didn't answer 911 calls but just patrolled and decided to have ALL cops drive to "hotspots", we have been abandoned. We have now become a "hot spot". My dear friend ############ who is 76yrs old was raped in broad daylight at 2pm on December 19th 2013. She feels very abandoned. She calls her detective and doesn't get much response.
We are angry about this. Not to mention all the smash and grab break-ins. Children being robbed of their phones in daylight on the street. Pistol whipped pedestrians trying to walk home from work. etc.
This is outrageous. What happens when the cops bring these criminals to be booked and there's yet no bond high enough to keep them in jail. What about the FBI regarding Grand Theft Auto, Burglary, Drugs, Credit Card Fraud, Identity Theft?
So I have organized an event to make a point that we are sick and tired of being on our own with the crime in Kansas City . . . I am calling it Women Against Crime but men are also invited. We will be carrying bats, rolling pins, brooms, and knitting needles. This will be a non-violent march to show solidarity that we are aware and not afraid. We will catch these little gangsta shits in spite of KCPD. We are pointedly NOT carrying guns. I don't want that can of worms to take away what we are trying to communicate to the city and the community...

Of course their job is to support the courts and they are under no obligation nor duty to protect individuals.
I have a suggestion - just move. I lived in those neighborhoods for years and thought somehow things would get better, the KCPD might actually do their job, the city might suddenly get it. But it will only get worse as layoffs will be necessary to pay pensions, the streetcars will suck the city dry and the grifters always want more. KCMO is a lost cause, stop tilting at windmills and get on with life somewhere else.

Every neighborhood in the city needs to do something like this. In my neighborhood the police KNOW where the criminals are and a judge won't issue a search warrant for a pinging cellphone that was stolen from someone who can identify the criminals that robbed him at gunpoint on the street.
ReplyDeleteIt is very important to always be keeping an eye out on everything in your neighborhood and call 911 on anything suspicious. Even if the police don't come there is a record that a call has been made about a certain car, or residence or building or individual. This helps the police do their jobs.

So....it seems to me that you are sick and tired, extremely frustrated and angry.....YET, you refuse to be responsible for your own safety! You apparently have an aversion to firearms, but you'd like the police to protect you with their firearms.
