SHOW-ME EVEN MORE CASH FOR THE KANSAS CITY TOY TRAIN STREETCAR!!!

Take a look at the Missouri plan to fund the Kansas City Toy Train Streetcar if/when phase deux doubles down on more taxes for local support . . .

AP: Projects added to Missouri transportation tax

Deets:

Kansas City Streetcars. Adds $124 million in state funding for streetcar lines in Kansas City, contingent upon approval of $356 million in local funding. Finances streetcars along Main Street from Pershing Road to the University of Missouri-Kansas City campus, along Independence Avenue from the River Market to Benton Boulevard, and along Linwood Boulevard from Main Street to Prospect Avenue

Meanwhile, education and healthcare suffer in the Missouri because Red State constituents are easy to trick with clever rants against Prez Obama.

More in a bit . . .

  5. City needed $150 Million back in 09 just for street and road repairs. Imagine what it is now and what it is going to be by the time the downtown train wreck get's finished.

"To put the numbers into perspective, the $101M figure NextRailKC provides for the Linwood route (1.8 miles from Main to Prospect) would translate into $10,000 per foot - or $250,000 for each 50-foot lot on either side of the street. According to their own study, the cost would be $29,000 per person served (actually, let me restate that because I'm not feeling served by this, PER PERSON LIVING...) in the Linwood corridor, or $202,000 per vacant housing unit, or $1,26M per vacant acre. If you want to see the neighborhood improved, the proposed budget would be enough money to buy every lot along that route, raze what's on it, and rebuild something new. Here's another tell-tale graphic: number of employment placed served along Linwood is 1/25 of the Main Street corridor. C'mon, just knowing that my employees can ride the tram to work from Prospect is not going to make me situate my business along Linwood!!!"

  9. The state will be getting my no vote because of this. That money is needed to fix the Broadway bridge mess and getting the stoplights off felony freeway.

  12. Does anyone honestly believe that what holds back development and business activity on Linwood and Independence is a lack of public transportation?
They must have gotten a dose of double strength KoolAid from the kiddie corps.
Instead of "A Trip to Bountiful", this fiasco is a short ride to Fantasyland and bankruptcy.
    All aboard.

  13. If you think the MODOT tax is bad only because they added streetcar u not very smart. The MODOT tax is a moron test much in the same way as the stadium tax. For some reason people are OK with subsidizing billionaires and bailing out our elected officials on state budgets. So we can't maintain our roads but we are going to spend ten years building new ones? Sounds like a plan for Mizura.

Didn't we hear something like this about the Citadel project a few years ago?
