TKC NOTE: Here's an important missive about life after Dead Tree Media for one of Kansas City's most thoughtful and intelligent writers.
NOW . . . KANSAS CITY NEEDS TO HIRE ROBERT BUTLER BECAUSE HE'S ONE OF THE BEST WRITERS AND THINKERS IN THIS COWTOWN!!!
Check it:
Former Kansas City Star Movie Critic Robert Butler writes: "For the second time in three years, I’ve been downsized. I’m not happy about the geometric progression this suggests.
"In 2011 I was let go by The Kansas City Star after a long career as a journalist. I found a new home with the Public Affairs Department of the KC Public Library, working with a great bunch of people putting on free educational public events -- lectures, film series, exhibits. I wrote and edited the library’s monthly calendar and press releases, wrote brochures and produced a weekly film blog on the library’s site. I also made (and still make) regular appearances on radio and TV.
"But last week I learned that because of funding cutbacks, my position is being eliminated.
"I love working, I love writing. And I like being part of a productive group.
"So...anybody out there need the talents of a wordsmith?
Let me know at robertwbutlerkc@gmail.com."

Robert, until you get in with the grifters on the East Side, you will ALWAYS be downsized in favor of multiculturalism, or some other catch phrase of the day, which essentially means if you are not black, you don't get any money for make work jobs.
ReplyDeleteYou had a make work job.
Only Blacks have sinecure when it comes to make work jobs.
He should start his own YouTube channel. Do pranks or something.
ReplyDelete...and Jenae'nae just gets to keep writing about Pharrell songs.
ReplyDeleteGo on a tour of colleges warning students not to major in journalism.
ReplyDeleteHe could catch on with Tony Bones. She needs some serious PR assistance and it probably pays better than the Library.
ReplyDeleteA little May December action for the quid pro quo.
God knows, Bones could sure use some polish.
Get it? Polish the bone?
ReplyDeleteJesus I'm funny.
Just start your own blog and you'll get rich and famous! (Chuckle)
ReplyDeleteuh...sorry you are unemployable but you don't come from south of the border. maybe if you were muslim.
ReplyDeleteChuck don't quit your day job or change you name to Shecky.
ReplyDeleteSorry Robert but social memory is something we're running through the shredder right now. Baine Capital is running things and there's a new Mayor in town.
ReplyDeleteOther local movie critics take note. Have a day job.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the club. Just kick back and watch the new movie Idiocracy CK Style. Playing now.
ReplyDeleteBest viewed from outside the CKMO city limits.
He's a great writer. I enjoyed his talents. He'll come out on top...he's that good. Their loss...
ReplyDeleteTony,
ReplyDeleteYou hire him, mission accomplished. Next item?
God, how sad. Signs of the times indeed.
ReplyDeleteJournalism - in the traditional sense - is dead. The news business is now at the mercy of corporations and it can only report supplemental PR for the sake of retaining advertisers.
I think Tony could expand his blog by having former old school journos who can contribute real, hard-hitting news. Of course, it will be voluntarily at first, but people still actually read (and watch) the news--what's left of it anyway.
I will glad to be onboard, too. I'm a disgruntled journo myself.
Think about it, Tony. Could be a lucrative venture.
Head for Burns & Mac! They have billions of our tax dollars to spend!! KC is now BM!
ReplyDeleteLeave KC, this town is dying and its heritage with it. Soon it will be a conservative backwater with nothing but McCulture. The community leaders don't care because they get paid by the people who profit from uniformity and impoverishment. In a few years the sun will likely bake the midwest off the map anyway. Oh wait, there is no global warming, I forgot. No need for health care either.
