Kansas City Fiction Talking Points And The Upcoming Downtown Convention Hotel

Here's the deal . . .

IF MAYOR SLY GETS A SECOND TERM, KANSAS CITY WILL BE BURDENED WITH A HALF BILLION DOLLAR TAXPAYER SUBSIDIZED CONVENTION HOTEL!!!

It has been part of his agenda for years and without a challenger this will get rammed through without much opposition . . . We've been reporting this one for about a year and just about every other newsie in Kansas City is simply too scared to say anything negative about the current Administration.

And for those who want to dig even further into the deets . . .

Check this fact check from the Show-Me Blog: Kansas City Convention Hotel Built On Fiction

Reality check . . .

"But remember that this supposedly new push for a convention hotel in Kansas City will be built on a fiction promulgated by those on the “team” who hope City Hall will “take care” of them when it comes time to spend taxpayer money."

In other words, political consultants, PR firms and all manner of connected corporate concerns seem to be PROFITING BIG TIME from the latest round of tin-cup urbanism that's quickly putting this town on track toward bankruptcy.

  1. Never had any of these problems until the S'lie James Regime came into the picture.

  2. I like Sly, but how can he justify this when 1) private investors are opening smaller hotels downtown without public money, and 2) when hotel development companies have approached the city about building larger expansive hotels downtown with minimal city support needed, and they have been shunned by his staff because of B & M?

  3. The opponents will come out of the woodwork when the Streetcar goes down in flames. Sly is very vulnerable and he's been making a lot of enemies with deep pockets - Rex - and who vote - kcfd, rank n file city hall drones

  4. Don't you working folk in KC get tired of paying all those taxes? Or are you just hogs for punishment?

  5. Well, we have lower taxes than JoCo, so no...

Don't you suburbanites get tired of trolling your own echo chamber of suburban angst?

  6. Tony how many of your "Lighter shade of Brown" Slate will challenge the imperial mayor? Can we count voter fraud Teresa? Empty suit Rea? Penis Head Ferro? Or will they just be empty rubber stamps???

  7. Carnac says: Sly re-elected for a second term; streetcar phase II fails; no public subsidy convention hotel; mayor staff looses a heavy hitter & mayor's automatic rubber stamp majority city council is replaced with 4 -5 "John Sharps" - Lucas, Loar, Wright, Justus, & Taylor … and Cindy Circo & Russ Johnson (divorced again) doesn't succeed Sly in 2019!

  8. Anonymous Carnac 7:04 pm I would also add Jared Campbell among potential new city council votes to question and challenge whatever Sly wants to spend tax payers funds. Campbell would be an improvement over Jim Glover! So 6 votes willing to question / challenge Mayor Sly!

But the folks in Johnson County cities actually get some very good services for the taxes they pay: public safety; streets; parks; common sense business regulations; and all the rest.
If the elected folks in Johnson County ignored city services and then blew money like the KCMO gang, they'd all be out on their ears in no time.
If people want to play amateur developer, they should see if they can get jobs with RED or Zimmer, not run for office and waster taxpayer money.
KCMO government is the laughing stock of the metro.

  11. Show-Me blog. What a bunch of fucking idiots. At least they want to pay less taxes for their business advantage. The tards on here are just poor idiots who follow blindly.

  12. 7:27 has a laughable, simpleton suburban apologist understanding of city government. Johnson County doesn't blow money, hahahaha. The corporate welfare capital of the world! what a fucking joke. Can't attract a business without paying millions per job, and even then can only attract jobs from elsewhere in the metro. City services! hahaha. I guess if what you care about is getting your street plowed the 2 times a year it snows here. If you care about having sidewalks, effective police (not ticket writers), fire departments that actually put out fires, parks worth visiting, museums, public transportation, having an airport, and jobs (cause urban KCMO still has 50% of metro jobs), then JoCos not the place for you. Its just acres of heavily subsidized strip malls full of chains.
